What brand/size? The stock Bug speedos look and work great, especially when paired with a 5-inch tach.January 11, 2016 at 10:37 pm #266883prisoner6Participant
A Porsche 914 electronic tach is identical in size to the VW speedo. I got mine on eBay 2 years ago for under $100. There’s one in a derelict 914 in the Miramar Auto Hobby shop, Ray might sell it.January 11, 2016 at 11:35 pm #266884kenttParticipant

And if you want more of the “old school” look, a guy on the Samba sells face decals for the 914 tach to match the older VW speedos without the built in gas gauge.

I have the aftermarket speedometer. It’s made by VDO and is 3 1/2 inch across.January 12, 2016 at 8:59 am #266886kenttParticipant
This guy can likely repair it for you. I had him restore/rebuild the gauges for my planned dashboard.

If you can get to San Diego, CA stop by Kline Bros. VW repair in El Cajon, CA (closer to Lakeside). They have a couple of milk crates full of VW speedo’s and parts for sale CHEAP (along with other crates of other stuff, new engines and tranny and all EMPI and other parts). Over the years (3) I have found them all to be good guys. Be warned: this is NOT a shop for uneducated “Lookie-Lou’s” to come in and waste their time, they may appear to be a little gruff, but they’re all good guys and will cut you a deal if you are sincere. Highly recommended.
