We are still in pa. Mrs wobby talked me into intercourse. We’ll be leaving pa soon i think. She’s lovin intercourse. How was one to know. Biked to lancaster, hersey and strastburg. Going to holland tomorrow came apon a broke down buggy on the way to lancaster and had duct tape and parachute with me on me bike. 8 amish watching a red neck from vt rig thier buggy so they could get home. They don’t accept help easily. But I got that unabtrusive way about me that made them all feel comfortable. They wouldnt let the young boys keep the foam planes I gave them though.

So here I was staged and ready for my Championship run in the TD (seniors division) Autocross race. Truth is, I was a bit nervous, never having raced before.  I had my suction cup camera mount stuck firmly on the windshield holding my new camera and I was waiting in line for my shot at fame.   Ed had almost finished his run, so I turned my camera on.  But it didn’t start.  It was incredibly bright there, and with the sun over my shoulder I could hardly see the display on the camera.  Hit start again.  Ran the orientation run, the whole thing in 2nd gear.  Not too curvy, or whatever the official autocross word is.  Got back in line after my run.  My turn again.  I had my GPS hooked up and I ran the second with a top speed of 39 mph, which was 3 mph faster than my first.    On Run #2 I had tried a different track than on #1 and I thought it was better.  Now on #3, I was going to push it harder. Started the camera, reset the GPS and when the starter gave the signal, took off.  I thought I was quite a bit faster than on #2 and the GPS showed that I did have a top speed of 42 mph which was 3 mph faster than #2.  That was a whopping 6 mph faster than my first run.  I felt pretty good about that.  But, I knew that if I could run again, I would be faster still, as I had used the engine to brake the speed prior to entering the turns.  I could see that I could improve and be faster by maintaining speed until the last minute and braking to decelerate more quickly.   I also believe that there were a couple of stretches that I could have gained some by shifting into 3rd.

Got home that night (back in the hotel) and decided to look at the videos:
#1.  Remember the 2 hits on the start?  Well, it’s a new camera and the second hit actually turned the camera “off”.  No video.
#2.  Forgot to turn the camera on.  Bummer.
#3.  Turns out that the little knob on my new camera had moved from Movie/video to snapshot.  So all I got was a great still of the starter about to send me off.  Good picture eh?

Before all the TD youngsters who raced give me a hard time, I will preempt and say that it was definitely the driver.  MiGi was willing and able to do much better.   Even though I have added a few Winter 2014 go fast idea to MiGi’s to-do list, This track set up on this day was more a test of the driver than the car.

Come on out and give it a go in 2014.  It is a hoot!

Here is the only photo result of all my photographic efforts:

Now I ask you, isn’t that a great photo??

    Wait ’til next year.

It’s a two second penalty for hitting a cone. I’m not quite sure of the penalty for running down a course worker.

Carlisle posted the final 2013 Autocross results.

The full list is at the bottom of this post. Our valiant entrants are here. I included Chuck Beck, because he was driving Cory Drake’s Speedster.

The PAX index certainly helped out Ed and Bridget! And most definitely hurt Bill!

    Very cool! Thanks, Paul.

Word on Chuck Beck: He drove Cory’s car for one round–lost oil pressure–and so then transferred the number to one of his own creations. Cory knows which car it was; it was not a 356.

Holy crap! Just noticed: My car iced, like, 3 Miatas in raw time? I don’t know how that happens….

It’s stunning, isn’t it? Stock 2011 WRX is 265HP. And all-wheel drive. They are thinly-disguised pro-rally cars that ought to be able to run circles around us with even grandma at the wheel.

Now I laugh at these hood-scooped wannabe racer boys. Ha! I laugh!

Someone find them so I may laugh to their face.
