I’ve seen that before, and to my eyes it’s one of the most beautiful automobiles ever created. A good article about how it came about is at http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2007/01/01/hmn_feature6.html and more photos and information can be found at http://www.ensignautobody.com/Must say I’m surprised that Bob Ensign, the builder, is offering…[Read more]

Here’s a list I’ve compiled over the years. Some are for the original T-series MG, some are for Cobra or Speedster replicas or for VWs, but carry parts that can be used on our…[Read more]

The Lafer factory riveted the VIN plate to the firewall, just below and in front of the dash wiring.

My first ride was a ’62 AH Sprite Mk II that my dad heard about on an early-morning radio call-in show. Bought it for $455 in 1969, trailered it home to Houston from Shiner, Texas, and spent another $70 to have the right rear axle replaced. Drove it during my sophomore year at college before getting the engine rebuilt. Replaced the carpet,…[Read more]

Congratulations, Tom. There’s much to learn and this is, indeed, the place to do it. Also a fun group. When you say “you get the picture,” I’m hoping you mean that literally — we love to eyeball each other’s rides. See you on down the road . . .

I still remember spinning out on bias-ply tires in my ’62 Sprite, Roy. Thanks, but I’ll stick with radials. Your observation about the age ranges of people who react positively to our TDrs is spot-on, though.

It sits up front, mounted fore-and-aft on the right side. Secured with two aluminum straps and grounded. When full, its weight helps offset mine (ahem) when I’m behind the wheel.

I considered having my original tank pulled and rehabbed, but in the end just had it replaced with a 10-gallon JAZ fuel cell. It fit fine and has given me no trouble in 7 years. Looks like this:

We’ve only driven it northward, from around Hearst Castle to just outside San Francisco. Even in a 2007 Ford Taurus it was a memorable trip. I don’t believe my wife could take the trip southward, not with all the sheer drop-offs into the ocean and some of those hairpin curves.
