Wow Ed,
It looks like you went to the Spaghetti Factory and got a take out order of wiring!! At least our cars are without CPU, ECU, PEU and other stink’in electronic modules to have to sort out….
When do we get to see the finished product? It would be worth an autumn trip up to the VA mountains to get an early look at your creation (…[Read more]

Wires are going in. Pedals are in. I re-worked them a little with nylon bearings so they won’t wear out so fast.
Tonight I cut the first template for the floating floor.
Also got word from the upholsterer. He’s making progress.

20 mph is a huge jump. I can only assume the drive train came from more than one vehicle to be that mismatched. On the transmission end of your speedometer is a plastic gear. There are gears available with different number of teeth on them. By changing to a different toothed gear you can alter the speed reading. Increasing teeth will result in…[Read more]

Mine does the same thing (CMC on a VW frame) I am only 10mph off though and reading slow (doing 50 gauge shows 40).

If the pressure gauge is electrical vs mechanical you can test the gauge by grounding the wire at the sender. Should get a full sweep of indicator needle when grounded. If not the gauge may be defective. You can also test sender with a VOM meter by reading resistance when engine is off and when running. If there is no difference in readings then…[Read more]

I replaced all my old 2” VDO black face gauges with new VDO Royale white face ones. The originals were made in Germany and the new ones I suspect are made in China but as I wanted white face I had little choice in the price range.
I too had 60-80 psi oil readings with the new electrical gauge. It was suggested on this forum to test the r…[Read more]

After messing with inaccurate gauges for quite a while, I went with VDO small gauges (much less $$ than Smiths and lots of choices in dial face style) and I wimped out and purchased an inexpensive Speedo & GPS sender and Tach off of eBay ( less than $100 each). The Speedo and Tach are not period correct but they are accurate and easy to r…[Read more]

OK Roy, so it’s tongs and not tweezers & it’s knackered and not messed up & it’s sorted out and not worked out…
…and it’s a bonnet and not a hood & it’s packing and not gaskets/”thin rubber thingies.” I’m starting to get it.
I guess that means Ed needs to add some German vocabulary to his daily chats about his fine new Porsche Spyder kit a…[Read more]

1977 chevette 4 speed mg td by fiberfab
The shifter on this has no spring to it. It just flops all over the place unlike others I have used that self center with a spring. This makes it real hard to figure out where 1st is compared to 3rd when shifting. You just have to guess that you are in line with 1st then if you are shift down then up an…[Read more]

1977 chevette mg td by fiberfab 4 speed.
My oil pressure Gage is not working at all. I figure it is the sending unit. Where can I get one and what do I need to check to be sure it is in fact the sending unit?
ALSO=
The speedometer is reading 60mpg at 40. Is there a fix for this?

I just bought this mg td replica made on a 1977 chevette 4 speed from fiberfab.
After I had the car inspected, then registered the car and got my tag I went for a drive.
PROBLEM #1
We were driving down the road when the car started ideling faster then normal, then when we turned into a store parking lot and turned the car “off” it kept the eng…[Read more]

Now you’re having fun.
Tea is apparently indispensable to any British car build process, as we have all learned from watching the Project Binky videos. (You HAVE binge-watched them all, haven’t you?)

Both are correct. Cream and brown is correct for the vast majority of TDs. Black and white went on a some of the later Mark IIs

Like Bill. Mine is Cream and Brown. I think I got mine from MG Magic. Either them or Moss Motors.
