I have CAD drawings for the top frame for Ford Fiberfab in PDF format. It has complete dimensions to make the frame. I can email the drawings to you if you want them.

That’s some good stuff. I think you are correct about about the contact disengaging before the starter fully engages the flywheel ring gear.
Don’t forget to post the fix here too. I am interested in hearing what the heck is causing the problem too!
I used to pull stuff apart like your Dad did. I should start doing that again now, but most of the…[Read more] -

Thanks Mark,
I’m a mechanic by nature and experience. My dad was an aircraft mechanic and could troubleshoot and fix just about anything. I learned a lot from him. That sometimes creates a problem for me in that I always want to know why something doesn’t work and my first impulse is always to try to fix it. I look at a starter as a very simple…[Read more] -

West Marine (or probably any marine supplier) had blades that I used. My Chevette BCW has a VW motor. The arms are not VW on car, but accept the Marine blades.
You just have to cut them down. That’s easily accomplished with the Sears Accu-Cut I bought. Man what a lethal hand tool!!! -

My personal opinion of eBay is not good. I’ve had a couple VERY bad experiences buying vehicles that were NOT what they were advertised to be. Getting satisfaction from the sellers or eBay was non-existent.
If you are looking at the one in KY, that’s adverstised as a Classic Roadsters Ltd kit. They were one of the better made kits. You can a…[Read more] -

Actually I would like to find a finished car I could afford. Also would be interested in an unfinished kit as well. There is a kit on ebay now. Bid was up to 25 something I think this morning. 2 days left. But it has a broken windshield frame and I didn’t know what the possibilities were for a replacement. I’ve seen the TF but don’t care for the…[Read more]

Rich, I think there is about 3.75 inches but it looks closer because of the pine straw that I am sitting on. Thanks. Bill

Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Starter Problem in the forum Chevy/Ford Kits 16 years, 1 month ago
Starters that mount to the bell housing can’t really be shimmed. it only moves the starter in or out, not farther away from the flywheel/flexplate ring. This only makes more or less of the starter gear mesh with the ring gear.
GM starters bolt to the engine block. Shimming moves the starter pinion away from the flywheel/flexplate teeth. It only…[Read more] -

Hi Tom…welcome.
Unfortunately, it’s been almost 20 years since the last MG-TD replica’s were manufactured. At their height in the 1980’s there was many different manufacturers of the TD replica. FiberFab, Classic Roadsters Ltd, British Coach Work, Allison, and Classic Motor Carriages (FiberFab after the owner’s jailing), Daytona MIGI and…[Read more] -

Hey Bill,
Sounds really great! Looks like ground clearance could be a problem, but it sure doesn’t sound like a VW anymore.

James I actually posted mine there a week ago. All the same photos that you have already seen though. I won’t have new ones until I get the car here in AZ 🙂

Here is a link.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_properly_shim_a_starter
It seems that Chevy (GM) has more shimming issues than Ford. My wife reminded me that it was on my GM that I shimmed and not the Mustang. It’s worth a look if it is shimming. It sounds like a new starter may be in order.

I forgot to say that I looked at Ringo’s car with the tape on the slats. That is so cool. I really like it. I also really like Ringo’s car, it’s absolutely stunning. She looks like she is ready to fly. I wish my wire baskets looked better. Does Ringo have real wires? The red slats with the black body and the chrome are awesome.

The screen has been easy to clean so far. It doesn’t have much surface for bugs to stick, some just bounce off when they hit. The others get a hose blast.
The split between the fogs had been filled and gelcoated before I got the car. When I installed the driving light it mounts thru the wood blocking that holds the split together. It seems that…[Read more] -

Hey James!
You’ve been busy! You have to get that beauty outside and get some more photos so I can add them to my Screen Saver collection.
One question: I thought all CMC/FiberFab TDs had a joined split between the fog lamps. Yours looks like a solid piece. Another mod?
One request: I like the shape of your Wind Wings much better than my FiberFab…[Read more] - Load More
