Depends on whether it is epoxy or polyester resin. Epoxy is much more resilient to solvents. Methanol should be good on both but acetone may well dissolve polyester so try it on a bit that doesn’t matter to start with. Don’t use nail varnish remover as a source of acetone if you try this as it is oily and nothing will ever stick again! Acetone…[Read more]

This seemed to be such a simple project when I conceived it!
RE: My FF TD – the old carpet is badly faded and I decided to replace it. The floor pan went very quick and I was sure the rest would be the same. Not exactly! The boot area behind the seat is wearing me down – I’m too old for this project! The builder must have used an enormous a…[Read more]

Is there any way to re-mount the slave so it pushes on the clutch lever closer to the pivot point?
Or is it possible the pedal isn’t giving enough travel to the master cylinder? Maybe drill another hole in the pedal arm a little lower down…?

Fired it up again today. Reset the timing. Bled the clutch again. No Air. Cannot get enough travel from the slave cylinder to fully disengage the clutch. I’m contemplating a hair brained scheme to extend the original clutch cable. Haven’t made up my mind yet. So close…

Jack, I never had to cut the hat. It was used as is. It simply bolted to the small flange on the rear cover. Drill your own holes.

The fix for too-much-cut on fiberglass is not mysterious, Jack.
You know what you have to do. Also, it isn’t difficult. The material is easy to work and very forgiving.
Have fun!

Hey Bill,
AWESOME!!!!!
I’m envious that you are about on the road — I’m still trying to understand why one of the previous owners mis-cut the spare tire holder fiberglass “hat” and what I can do about it……
Happy Motoring — Go forth and DRIVE — post a video of your first run around the block……
What fun, this!!

It’s Alive !!!
This is a 40 year old wire harness. Colors have faded. Red with blue stripe closely resembles red with green stripe. Luckily, in 1989, I had a local Ford dealer where I used to work copy the factory wiring schematic for the Pinto.
Working from the component back to the ignition switch I was able to put the wires back where…[Read more]

Ed, by the way, I did find a new rig available from CIP1 in California — for around $150 complete with motor…
Of course, I found that one right after I finished referbing the junkyard one that I paid $100 for……. 🙂

Yea, I also found out about “curved windshield, 20″ between center-of-pivot” Super Beetle wiper rigs — I purchased a very nice, extra clean rig, got it home and found out that it would not fit (too wide). Luckily my local VW junkyard took it back and let me wander the yard to find a “flat windshield” Beetle rig that they let me pull out of a l…[Read more]

Nice going, Jack. I’m about to start wiring the Spyder, a daunting task. As it happens, I, too, need a wiper rig. I wish I knew you needed one: I’d have sent Bridget’s old setup. No good for the Spyder, as it needs the later (sideways motor) standard Beetle rig. NOT the Super Beetle! (Ask me how I know).
So, a plethora of VW wiper junk here at…[Read more]

More (slow) progress on my Ford TDr —
Front Fiberglass all fitted and then removed so I can install the heater, wire up the engine compartment, and install the throttle linkage and pedal.
Now I am working on getting the back end fiberglass fenders and panels installed, as well as creating and installing a wire harness … hard work,…[Read more]
