i just purchased a london roadster it needs a little cosmetic help
i would like to replace the chrome grill if possible
any suggestions were i can find parts
January 14, 2011 at 11:32 am #243415The answer to this one is not good news riley.
I believe the London Roasdster uses a reproduction original style MG-TD grill shell and grill bars.
The MG -TD grill is not currently being reproduced.
And if you find on on ebay or anyother auction/selling site, you will pay hundreds…and hundreds…of dollars!
I believe your best bet will be to have your grill rechromed.

January 14, 2011 at 11:50 am #243416Riley, Look in fareoh’s and Redhill’s photo gallery . All London Roadsters I have seen use a grille that is about 3” shorter than the original MG with the exception of Redhills car. On London Roadsters the grille shell sits on top of the VW suspension instead of in front of it .That’s why they use a shorter grille. On my London Roadster, the grille shell appears to be some sort of plastic or fiberglass that has been chromed. The ”louvers”.slats ,are not really slats but are chrome strips like body side moldings that are attached with adhesive to the panel that backs up the grille.

Is it possible to remove the grill for rechroming without much difficulty?
January 14, 2011 at 12:40 pm #243418Removing the grille shell should not be too difficult, Try to determine what material it is made of and be sure that the plating shop you choose can redo it.

I just took another look at the London Roadster ad on the TD History, replicas page and the grill is indeed, shorter than an original grill.

January 14, 2011 at 4:19 pm #243420Paul, It’s a hollow victory. I have looked at my London Roadster many times since I got it in 1994 and wondered why they didn’t lengthen the hood by 2 or 3 inches so they could have used a full length grille.I think they were trying to keep the body measurments the same as the original MG or so I’ve heard.A couple of extra inches would also have centered the wheels under the fenders as well.I do not know exactly what the deminsions are supposed to be but I do know that my BCW hood panels are longer than the ones on the London Roadster and the wheels are in better position in relation to the fenders.

January 16, 2011 at 9:45 pm #243423There is A Daytona MIGI, Vw chassis on Craigslist in Louisville Ky. It is rough with no title or interior, but does have a grill and all body parts including a luggage rack. My wife says tow is enough, so have at it. They are asking $1200, but I have a feeling that they would take less.
January 16, 2011 at 11:44 pm #243424See? That’s why I have only two old cars (my Duchess and a 65 Plymouth) but seven guitars and a mandolin. Cheaper and easier to justify!
