Asking those who have their TD on a 71 Beetle chassis if the front shock adapters like shown here, are required.

    Allen,

I don’t have my car in front of me, but I don’t recall any “adapters”.
Stock front end, stock shocks, stock bolts.

Allen, I’m a ’69 but don’t have anything like that.   All stock here too.

My 71 Chassis doesn’t have any shocks front or rear and there are different styles listed in the VW parts houses and wasn’t sure which I needed. I’ll order stoch front and rear. Thanks guys.  Thumbs Up

Allen , dont have them on my 74. I used a cheap oil filled shock.I bought them from JC Whitney a few years back. They work fine. This was before I learned there are much better places to get Beetle parts than Whitney.

I’ll order mine from Mid America Motorworks. Better price including shipping that locally.

During the FL Bug Jam it came to my attention that I installed my front shocks incorrectly. So…when I disassembled the top setup and installed the shocks and rubber spacers correctly my shocks don’t extend any more (they are at full travel) and I cannot get the top nut on. The threads of the shocks don’t protrude through the arm on the front beam. I have two new Monroe front shocks from NAPA. So my question is do I order two new shocks from a VW parts house or order the extenders for a 66-74 beetle shown below?

Problem fixed. And didn’t need the extenders.

    How did you do it?

Had no weight on the front end to push the shock up into the arm on the front beam. Used a jack to lift the lower trailing arm and got everything lined up and torqued. Did that for both sides. I probably should have waited until I installed the body and had tires on. Live and learn.

Ah! “No weight” on the front is the usual situation with these babies. Every little bit helps.
