To answer your original question, Allen. Yes, one filament (the tall one, I think — from memory) is brighter than the other. So it does matter a bit — they’ll still work either way. But, you get more contrast/difference wired one way compared to the other. Just be prepared to swap terminals there before you tighten everything up…

One of the reasons that I didn’t get antique tags for mine. In Tennessee, they’re only supposed to be driven to shows or for pleasure cruises on weekends, though you can take them to a repair shop or test drive after a repair during the week. Not sure how much they enforce them, but normal daily driver uses are pretty much prohibited….

edward ericson posted an update So came home (from work, in Bridget) to this notice from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration:
Important information about Maryland registered historic vehicles

Dear Historic Vehicle Owner,

As the owner of a historic vehicle, we want to make you aware of legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly that goes into effect on Saturday, October 1, 2016. It is important to know that this legislation will impact how historic vehicles may be operated.

Effective October 1, 2016, a Maryland registered historic vehicle may no longer be used for transportation to and from employment, school, or for commercial purposes.

In addition, historic vehicles with a model year of 1986 or newer may be subject to safety equipment repair orders issued at roadside by law enforcement.

Thank you for your compliance with this new Maryland law.

That venturi ring functions similar to carb velocity stack, and increases airflow as much as 10% at full throttle. The curved shape funnels the air in, rather than it “dragging” on the corner where it must make a 90 degree turn to enter the fan. It is simply more aerodynamic… Not magic, more snake oil…

That center mount would give individual, equal length runners for a 48 IDA – but would not allow you to use a factory alternator/generator stand nor shroud. I’m not sure what it’s application would be, other than drag racing…

I modified my Scat shroud to add the vanes, thermostat and Hoover bit.

FYI – You can buy a venturi ring and install it on earlier shrouds. I’m running a Scat doghouse shroud (with heater tubes), the larger VW fan, and installed one of those venturi rings on it. It provides a similar function as a carb velocity stack – it smoothes out the airflow at higher RPMs since the air no longer has to travel around a 90 degree…[Read more]

Eddy, that addition of larger fan and the vortex ring on the new shroud likely increased your cooling air flow at least 20%, perhaps as much as 25%. Good move, IMO!
