May 13, 2012 at 4:09 pm #234141Good afternoon-My London Roadster in its sales brochure claims to have a custom built 1800 cc engine. I assume it does since it doesn’t have any serial numbers on the engine. I recently replaced the original carburetor with a stock V W carburetor for a 1600 cc and my v w air cooled engine mechanic tuned it for stock 1600 cc.If in fact it is a 1800 cc or thereabouts engine .. is a stock carburetor for a 1600 cc engine ok for my 1800 cc engine..?I really kinda hate to ask this question….she is running fine ..no issues at all .thanks so muchMay 13, 2012 at 4:30 pm #250485
It probably could use larger jets but hey…if she’s purring like a kitten, leave her alone. newkitman2012-05-13 16:31:29

May 13, 2012 at 5:01 pm #250487Thx Allen ..I had read here ..that it might make the engine run lean not having the proper jets ..
if that was in fact the case..Thx again ..btw -If you are ever up this way ..stop in !May 13, 2012 at 5:13 pm #250488I didnt see a name on ithere’s the only descriptionthx…..jebarry2012-05-13 17:16:10
May 13, 2012 at 6:10 pm #250489That is a Solex.
34PICT-3 is the model.

May 13, 2012 at 6:13 pm #250490Standard Solex Carb. This particular one is a Solex 34PICT-3 used on the later model VWs (71 and on). Those carbs are great if you you have a vacuum advance distributor. Takes a little tweaking if you are running an 009 mechanical advance distributor.
If I ever get up that way I’ll let you know. Sort of going that way on the way to Carlisle this weekend. At least I’ll be running through part of SC and NC.Allen Caron

..appreciate the info on that i did not knowand thx Allen .I was just concerned that she may be running too lean ..as i said she is running fineand Allen would love to catch up with you .. I know Oak Island /Southport NC is probably off the beaten track..wish i was going to carlisleMay 13, 2012 at 9:14 pm #25049234-Pict 3 is what i have. It’s pretty much what you get if you go to the parts store and ask for a stock VW carb.
It’ll work fine for anything up to and including a 1.9, say the tinkerers. Usually do want some bigger jets in it for bigger engines.
Here’s a guy who took it a bit further on his 1915.
