Sure wish I could get the wire wheels.Yep, if the ending price is right, that could be a GREAT start for someone. Kit is essentially unassembled, but it looks like the running gear is pretty far along. Those wire wheels, shiny chrome grille shell, and new gauges, alone are worth some $$…Just hope it doesn’t get assembled like this… ;);)

Slowly coming back from the ashes...April 18, 2013 at 11:08 am #2554255 hours from ending and not a single bid — even for the $1200 opening price?
If I hadn’t already bought a complete set of new bumpers and a used original grille shell, I’d be on this one for parts, if nothing else…The 5 wire wheels are worth the opening price…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan

Zoom in on the photo of the wheel. Those are solid chrome rims, with wire baskets.PMOSSBERG2013-04-18 11:57:34

April 18, 2013 at 1:14 pm #255427Paul’s right! Again! While those are nice wheels, they are not real wires.
April 18, 2013 at 2:07 pm #255428I understand. They’re what used to be called Wire Basket Wheels — Superior was one common brand, though they were sold under several brand names.
While they may not be as valuable as true wire wheels, especially those with knock-offs, those wheels are still likely worth $500 – $600 or more, of the $1200 starting price. Throw in the chrome grill shell’s value of $600 or more, and the rest of the car is free…That was my point…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
Slowly coming back from the ashes...April 18, 2013 at 3:15 pm #255429No arguement with that Kent. I just want to make sure no one gets misled.
And on that note…I agree the grill would be worth huge bucks, if it was a true reproduction. That is, if it would work on an original TD. But I don’t think it is. Here’s why….A reproduction grill would have a small hole, centered in the top portion. The threaded stud on the medallion goes through that hole and holds the medallion and the top cap on to the grill shell. There should be a hole in the lower portion for a crank start. And the upper shoulders/corners look too square and too wide to my eye. Here’s an original:And the one in the ad:Again, not arguing, just floating my opinion out there for ya’ll to shoot at.PMOSSBERG2013-04-18 15:22:33
