Hey Folks,
Anyone have a spare Beauty Ring for a 4-lug VW wheel? I need one for the rear-mounted spare on Emma (a BCW) and they only come in sets of 4…..Thanks,JackAugust 21, 2014 at 10:11 am #261063The beauty rings that I bought were for a 15 inch wheel number of lugs had nothing to do with it . I also bought stainless steel could not get them to shine . These are available on ebay
August 21, 2014 at 3:24 pm #261064…I have a set on the car but want one for the spare — hate to buy 4 to get 1…….may have to settle for a “non-beautified, no ring” spare tire on Emma………..
JackAugust 21, 2014 at 3:57 pm #261065Maybe a tire cover?
MG Magic has ’em solid or with a center openingSearch around and you can probably find a vendor with logos on em.PMOSSBERG2014-08-21 16:02:20

August 22, 2014 at 9:25 am #261067Thanks Paul…..
I was thinking hub cap and an actual cover over the whole spare tire wasn’t even on my RADAR screen…!!!GREAT IDEA!!!!This is why Napoleon Hill, who wrote “Think and Grow Rich” said you need to have a group of Master Minds at your call who can help you see all the possibilities…well, you folks on the TDR site are sure the master minds of the “little British Sports Car Replica World.”Thanks for the idea — I really like the one from UK that you listed the link for……JackAugust 22, 2014 at 9:36 am #261068Paul Mossberg

August 22, 2014 at 9:44 am #261069This is the spare tire cover I’m getting from the bay. $12.99 and it matches the color scheme of my TD (Red with white seats and top).

With a rear VW engine don’t get a closed version – ask me how I know – I had to remove mine because I started overheating with my 1641 – you will need more air – get one with a hole if possible. If you stand behind the car when someone pushes the gas you can see the fabric getting sucked into the spare as it hunts for air.August 22, 2014 at 11:32 am #261071…I actually like the cover with the hole in the center if I can clean up the rusty rim enough to show off the part of the rim that would stick out beyond the hub cap
…time for some Rustolium Black brush-on…and see what happens….August 22, 2014 at 4:32 pm #261072Interesting comment from Dale (schu).
My sole observation is that there are MG TD replicas with completely solid rear engine covers. Those VW engines must be getting their air somewhere!Jack, just wrap a large garbage bag around the spare tire (making sure it’s secure and not gonna get sucked into the engine bay) and have someone hit the gas. You’ll see if Dale’s experience replicates itself with your car.Paul Mossberg

August 22, 2014 at 11:03 pm #261073Hey Paul,
You are right on about differences in the kit —Abby is a FiberFab II and has a solid “fake” spare tire over the engine. No air flows in that route, so I’m guessing air flow is from under the engine.Emma is a BCW and has a solid side-opening door over the engine bay. It also has a swing-away full size spare tire mounted on a swinging pipe assembly that latches closed to a couple of catches just below the engine compartment door. The engine cover door is solid and the dual carbs are drawing air as best they can out of the engine bay as well.I think Shu probably has the least restrictive air flow with his kit’s setup. So in my case, I can go with either a solid vinyl cover (ala the one from the UK) or one with the center open (ala the one from MG Magic…)Or I can just paint the rim on the darn spare, put a hub cap on it and be happy……..!!!!!!!Hey Kent or Royal, want to weigh in on how your cars get good cool air to breathe?JackAugust 22, 2014 at 11:14 pm #261074My kit is a Fiberfab/CMC kit that has a solid “fake” spare tire on the engine cover. The assembly manual says to mount the spare and then mark the slots in the rim and cut the fiberglass tire mount. I thought it was to let heat out but thinking about it, while running it would draw freah outside air into the engine compartment.
