Ed, that “compleat history” was terrific. Thanks. (I think compleat is more fitting than complete. Considering.)

I’m Building!
I have a 1988 CMC MG/TD kit that has never been assembled. It came with the body and rear fenders sitting on the chassis. The rest was still in plastic, boxes, or sorted in little numberd baggies.I will start a build thread in the comming days…But 1st, I have a question about insurance. My agent thinks the best way to… -

Worth a look…but there’s a lot of work needed. You’ll likely disassemble this one completely. Hard to weld in new floor pans with flammable fiberglass sitting on top of the pan!Driver door panel looks ripped. Might mean you’ll end up redoing the interior too.But still…worth a look.

I just hauled my unfinished kit 300 miles, but I opted for an enclosed trailer. If this unfinished kit is anything like mine, it will most likely not withstand the buffeting of an open car hauler.
I will start my thread in the “Who is Building Thread” in the next day or so… Just as soon as I get the chance to dig into what I have and f… -

Welcome Doug. Regarding gauges, last year at Carlisle, I spoke with Mike Kollar from VDO. Nice guy 610-289-0488 ext 3017. Most of our TDr gauges are VDO and they make a nice selection. True, as Ed says they are smaller than TD gauges. But they look pretty good. The Chrome series with the red needles and black faces are quite popular as ar…[Read more]

I’d say that it is worth a look. Whether it’s worth it really depends heavily on how much of the work you are going to do yourself. Pictures are not so good. I think that it needs a new front bumper also. A top with side curtains: plan on $750-$1000. My feeling is that you might do better but maybe not. If you are looking, and you prefe…[Read more]

Welcome to the club, Doug. That’s a great story about your father’s old assembly business. You can find a nice selection of appropriate gauges at egauges.com.If you want something a little different I can also recommend my way:Get a stock Beetle speedo and a 5″ tach from Classic Instruments or another maker. The TDs has larger gauges than most kit…[Read more]

Welcome aboard Doug. I purchased my 1st VW (a 76 Bus) from a friend in valpraiso. Drove the wheels off it for about 8 years and have stuck with vws ever since. I too have a CMC/Fiberfab unbuilt kit. You’ll have a blast building it. Like Larry mentioned, check the Download Manuals tab on the left. There are more than the CMC/FiberFab Assembly m…[Read more]

If the description is accurate, and there’s no reason to believe it is not, this is a complete kit!
And it sounds like just the sort of project you were looking for Dan.I’m still “sold” on this one. It’s less of a project car, so maybe it’s not what you are looking for. - Load More
