This morning I meandered to the county DMV. I was a little leery since my last visit to the local DMV but these folks were in a totally different league. I brought all the GA required paperwork to title a kit car and had the inspection sheet signed off by the county sheriff’s office and the insurance paperwork. Told them I wanted to title the…[Read more]

So I was in Intercourse earlier today and this older Amish guy in a motorized wheelchair (have never been able to figure out the Amish god’s restrictions) scooted across the street to ask me about the car. We talked for about 10 minutes with him asking a bunch of questions, that’s the longest I’ve ever talked to the Amish other than conducting…[Read more]

I have seen numerous ads extolling fuel additives, but, being advertisements, must be taken with a grain of salt.
I have heard that most of our type engines were made before the use of lead-free gas they tend to lose compression, and the wide spread use of added alcohol in gas makes the problem even worse.
They all talk about cleaning carb…[Read more]

I second the recommendation of putting a shut-off a foot or so downstream of the gas tank. Also means that you can place a fuel filter right after the shutoff and that will make replacing the filter easier.
I can’t count the number of times I said “well I’ll never have to do that again”.
Also, it might be possible to access the master cylinder by…[Read more] -

You are right, it is all in who you talk to — also maybe it’s how you deal with them and whether you hit them when they’re busy and having a bad day, or in a good day and not doing much. I know that Doug of Doug’s Garage had a dickens of a time with Nevada DMV registering his TDR. Took him months. My own experience was very easy, but that’s pa…[Read more]

Sounds like you live in ILLINOIS! 😡
One day you talk to one state employee in one office, only to be told by someone in another office a different story. 🙄
If I have any questions, I Google it and look it up on the official state webpage. 💡
Hope you get everything straightened out.
GOOD LUCK! 😮

I have a mg Td deluxe built in 1986. I have gone through 2 Chevy engines and have now tried a Toyota 22r. I can’t seem to stop the engine from over heating. I have installed an electric fan but still she gets hot.i have also had the radiator increased to 4 cores. Anyone ever cut the vents in the sides?? Any thoughts?

Well…like the topic header says, it was a frustrating day at the local title office. I had all the paperwork and they were ready to register Moneypenny as a 1971 VW Kit Car and then they said there was no need for a title for a vehicle as old as 1971. I said I understood that and explained that the reason I wanted the title was when I die, my T…[Read more]

Phillip. When you disconnect the fuel line, have a couple of 5 gallon gas can ready and when the fuel line comes off at the tunnel tube, stick the fuel line in the gas can. Saves gas that way. And you may want to consider mounting a fuel shutoff valve just ahead of the tunnel fuel tube. That’ll eliminate that problem if you ever have to pull the…[Read more]

My Fiberfab is has the same setup as Kent’s and Allen’s. The builder held on the tank with four bolts and large fender washers that he bent the corners of and act like clamps.

newkitman replied to the topic Master cylinder replacement in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 8 months ago
What Kent said and remember to NOT pull the master cylinder bolts out. Slide the master cylinder off the bolts so you don’t lose the spacer between the two front pan pieces. Its a double firewall there where the master cylinder mounts.

On my old VW FF TDr, you need to remove the gas tank to get access to the back side of the master cylinder. There should be either clamps or straps (or both, depending on builder) holding the fuel tank down…
