Don’t let a little wiring scare you. 😉
There are a number of pre-made wiring harnesses out there. Dune buggy hrnesses usual have just about everything you nee in a TDr. A repro Beetle harness wouldbe overkill. -

Hi John/PaulMy dash actually fits pretty well as the previous owner had taken weeks over getting it right. He also stated that he would “never do it again”. I was just toying with the idea of a complete original dash etc So im going to take the hint and give up on that idea. I will still go for the old style gauges and switches etc.All this is o…[Read more]

John, I went through all this recently. You have to decide how much work you want to get into. To replace the dash — at least on a Fiberfab — requires complete removal of all the gauges and more importantly, all the wiring. If I could do it over, I would just replace the instruments one at a time and refinish the Fiberfab dash, which ac… -

Hi John,
I’ve not heard of anyone trying this.Based on absolutely no objective criteria, I’d guess an original dash would fit, but not perfectly.I think most of our cars are slightly bigger than an original TD. So making an original dash fit would depend on how the cowl fiberglass is molded. There might be enough surface area to mount… -

Ok, the bar is in and painted and padded. The cast of the rear cover is complete. It really could use several more layers, but its a cover and is not structural.I had a friend at work who is artistically creative create a cover for the hole the spare tire mount would normally be. I instructed him to provide something to say it was still under…[Read more]

I took mine apart and repaired it . It was a gear slipping on a shaft. A bit of crazy glue and its been good now for 3 years. Bit of a challenge getting the thing apart though!

Happens to me all the time. Or, it did before I got the new shifter. Now, less often. 🙂

And after you get the car inspected, you can remove them. 😀

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I just went to my local Advanced Auto and bought the smallest red reflectors that had DOT A embossed on them (1″ X3″) and placed them above the tail lights and outside the fender center seam. -

Ed, what were the available “fields”/display areas? I surmise that you and Vincenc were the only “kit” cars there???IMHO you (a Subi powered TD body double) really don’t have much in common with a VW except for chassis.

Ed,Several months back, I promised to get an answer for you as to which display your car, as well as your friends??? cars, would be eligible to display on Saturday, July 18, at Schenley Park. In my defense, I did ask the question, of the right person. It just took him a… -

Hi GuysThe concept of using MGB running gear is I think a decent one. The concept of using the MGB frame is flawed. The MGs rocker panels are structural in a big way. Get that wrong and you have a problem waiting to bite you in the nether regions! He should have used a custom or even a small truck frame and just used the B running gear, in my h…[Read more]

Anything is worth a try, but I strongly suspect that won’t work.
Pulling the outer side of the fender up is going to move the inner surface of the fender closer to the body. And that means the point where the bracket meets the fender is going to have to change.
Were a betting man….that would be my bet. -

What Ed said!
If that body is already mounted to the frame, it will NEVER look right.Based on the cuts made to the rear fenders, I suspect the body has been mounted to the frame too far forward.Either that, or the frame is too short.Save your money (or your fishing boat!) -

Looks like a valiant attempt to mate a VW-based Fiberfab kit to an MGB chassis. Not for the faint of heart, I’d think.edsnova2015-06-23 13:49:36

Just thinking out loud here but I would try loosening the headlight bracket bolt at the grille and having someone lift the outer edge of the fender
to get it more in alignment with the opposite fender and tighten up the bolt. Redraw the lines and see how/if that helped. My Fiberfab manual says to support the fender with a 2×4 and when the f…[Read more] -

Great analysis Kall.
Those lines show exactly what I was trying to get at in my (much too) lengthy post above.I’m not sure the fender is mounted too low. Double check the alignment from side to side where the fenders meet the body.It is possible the right fender just needs to be pulled up. The bad news there is the holes for the headlight brac… - Load More
