Weird that it broke. Why would a pulley bolt break while just driving?

Update on broken pulley bolt. Was able to extract the threaded portion of the bolt from the crankshaft. There’s a crankshaft spacer behind the timing gear on the crankshaft, and it had slid forward out of the engine block about 3/4 of its way out to prevent the timing sprocket from keying onto the crankshaft. See the enclosed pics.
I was a…[Read more]

Took longer than i expected to post these. Computer programs upgrade and change how everything works just as you get comfortable with them.
Anyway, the final photos of the upgrade.
The panel being finished.
The finished panel.
Didn’t turn out too bad. It’s not perfect, but it’s good enough for who it’s for.
See you in Carlisle.

Thanks Bill,
That’s what I’ve done, although the drawings in the manual make the straps appear to be not just looped around but looped and closed around both bows. This cannot be done without adding an extra buckle to each strap, so I thought it best to ask for help before proceeding.
I bought this unbuilt kit in 2004, did all the work on the gli…[Read more] -

On mine, the rear bow slides into a sleeve sewn into the top. There is an opening in that sleeve near each end where you take that strap and loop it over the rear bow. Then just loop it over the front bar and adjust with the buckle to where the top looks right.

I have just completed an old VW based kit I found partially built, but I have no paperwork. Hoping someone has a Certificate of Origin or maybe an old registration or title from a car that is no longer around. It took me a long time to put this together and would love to get it registered. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I was touring again and had to table my progress for a few years. Back on it now and the car is nearly completed, but one component of the convertible top install has me puzzled. My kit has two straps, each with a typical buckle on one end and a rectangular fitting on the other. The manual is unclear as to how these straps are fitted around the…[Read more]
