So, after pondering the different ways to convert my VW-based TD replica to a front-engined layout, I purchased the remains of a rusty Triumph Spitfire and had it delivered to my shop. The Spitfire was chosen because Triumph maintained the body-on-frame type of construction. My plans are to strip the body, extend the frame (the Spitfire has an 83″ wheelbase) and place the TD body on the Spitfire chassis. In the past, I thought nothing about starting a project with nothing but “chalk marks on the floor”, but age and time have changed my methods. Now I look for the least complicated way to accomplish my task. I plan to install a more modern engine (for reliability, not power, although a little more power would be nice). I will try to attach some pictures of the beginning of the project.
