Ok so here I am in the desert, temps around 104 degrees. I cant ride the Harley with my ‘broken hand as its in a cast from the finger tips to the elbow. No way can I work on the little TDr. So I think POOL! so long as it doesn’t get wet the cast should be ok! Yippee skippee, …. the pool cover off and guess what? The pool is now 106 degrees. That’s hotter than the hot tub gets when its maxed out. Another 5 weeks and the cast comes off. Ohh goodie! I cant wait. Also had to cancel our cross country vacation, and a test ride on one of the new Indian motorcycles. hmmmm Put some wine in the cooler for later when “err indoors” (Aka the Mrs) gets home. Wine is a cure all did you know,.
Thanks for putting up with said vent.

June 17, 2015 at 7:30 pm #264865Pool at 106 degrees? Bummer. I lived in south Florida for about 6 years (Pine Island) and after a year, installed an in ground pool only to discover that in the summer when you really wanted to cool off, it was too darned hot to get in. Tried running the solar panels at night hoping that they would radiate enough heat to cool it off. No joy. Ice cubes didn’t work either. Finally moved to North Carolina where it was only 104 today. (But it is significantly cooler than Florida at night.)

As a kid I tried to ‘fog in’ our pool for my birthday party.
Not much fog but mom was out of the pool for a couple of weeks.
Redding, CA summer time air temp 110 to 115 degJust a thought…people in Las Vegas have coolers on their pools….
No trees were injured in the making of this message, but some electrons were inconvenienced.
June 17, 2015 at 9:16 pm #264867I live in Vegas and have never heard of a pool cooler. Shade is everything here. It makes a tremendous difference. We are at 110 degrees today and thanks to my solar heating panels, I got my pool warmed up enough to swim in (85-87 degrees). The morning temperature is usually in the high 70s. That’s because my pool faces east and a wall shades the early morning sun, then after noon time the shade from the house and trees starts to cover it. By 3:00 it’s mostly shady and the parts that are still exposed to the sun are noticeably warmer. If your pool is completely exposed to the hot afternoon sun, however, I can see how the pool could get overheated. Plant lots of trees around the pool or anything else that can put shade on your pool and that is guaranteed to cool it right down.
