Got a few things done at the end of this week and managed to get a few photos of what I did. The front side cowl needed some extra fiberglass to make everything fit. I added the glass and prepped it for painting. Then after that I got a single stage red polyurethane paint which matched at a reference number of 8 out of 100. (1 best-100 worst. Here are the two photos at the moment. I’ll be adding more as I go through the build.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackSeptember 21, 2013 at 8:37 pm #257802My guess is the upper left. No paint in the holes in the lower left. If you painted the corners on the right side you need to do it again.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackSeptember 22, 2013 at 9:13 am #257804Repairs made, sanded and panels installed. Now to install the hood and grille and mark the side cowls to trim and fit. Then paint tomorrow and reassemble the front end. Getting closer every day.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackOctober 4, 2013 at 9:11 pm #257805Got a lot (to me) of work accomplished on the TD this week. Hood is trimmed and side cowl repairs have been made. I painted the RH side cowl and it looked like a really close match. Then the paint dried and you can tell its a darker red. Monday the paint shop will take a stab at matching the remaining paint I have again. This time I believe the correct color is 2012 Ford Cardinal Red.

Is that a roller job too, like Bill did?October 6, 2013 at 3:53 pm #257808Yep. After paint dries its wet sand with “1500, 2000 and 3000 and then final coat. Bill inspired me!

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackDecember 31, 2013 at 5:58 pm #257811The scribe lines on my hood panels are faded but if what I’m looking at are the lines the side panels will be 44″ front to back at the top. Sound right?
December 31, 2013 at 9:49 pm #257812That sounds close to mine. I believe mine were 44-1/4 inch. Just be sure to measure front right to rear left corner. That should be the same for both sides. The Classic Roadster assemby manual in the download section really helped me. Also…meazure a lot and cut once.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackFebruary 20, 2014 at 7:39 pm #257813Its been a while since updating. I had the engine build started and yesterday after work finished putting the halves together. Today, while turning the engine to make sure there was no binding (there wasn’t), after about 5 turns, I hear a clink followed by binding. Oh crap! Took the engine halves apart and found the crank gear snap ring broke in half. Got her apart, cleaned and inspected. Fortunately no damage to the bearings but the distributor gear is dinged up. Fortunately I happen to have a brand new one and a new distributor gear. Whew!
Just called it a night. My shoulder can’t take to much more tonight. If I push it, it’ll mean surgery (as in shoulder replacement) and I’ll miss Carlisle again. And that ain’t happening. Shoulder replacement after Carlisle is my plan.
More build update tomorrow.Allen Caron

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackFebruary 20, 2014 at 8:11 pm #257814Sounds like my luck…
Luckily this last one went together OK with no issues. But, I was once finishing up a build, put the engine back in the car, as was bolting the right intake (of dual carbs) onto the head. (Couldn’t install engine with carbs on it.) Fumbling around, I dropped a nut down the intake. In trying to get it out with a magnet, I only pushed it down farther and wedged it in. Had to pull the engine back out, remove the head, compress the spring and get the nut out. Put it back together, put it back in, and this time get it bolted on without incident…Murphy was a mechanic in a former life…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
Slowly coming back from the ashes...February 20, 2014 at 8:27 pm #257815I didn’t know Murphy retire from the AF. 😆 But he’s been visiting EVERYONE lately.
I’ll have the engine together by Sunday night. Lord willing and Murphy doesn’t strike again.
