Got ready to hook up the carb and got to thinking. This particular carb (34PICT-3) has beeb rebuilt several times. And in this case, other than the case halves and intake manifolds, its the only part that isn’t new. It was looking pretty ragged compared to the rest of the components so I bit the bullet and purchased a new one. Cost me $112.00 at my local VW parts dealer. Carb even came with new solenoid and choke. I’ll install it and do a good tune-up and be ready to go. Looking at the old carb, the mating surfaces are shabby so I’m going to disassemble it and keep the good parts. If you’ve rebuilt a carb over three or four times, best to get a new one. Now I shouldn’t have fuel problems as everything from the tank to the carb is brand new.
