I recently rebuilt my 1500cc sp engine. The engine code was H5xxxx. It seems that it would be nice to the next owner if I rebadged the engine to a B6xxxx to indicate that it is now a 1600 sp. While it is true that since it is only a single relief engine, – that is visible without tearing the engine apart but which jugs and pistons are installed are not known until you take it apart. I would think that to relabel it a B6 would be more useful information to the next owner. What do you think?

I guess that would be helpfull. Don’t know about the legality of all that. I do know that when you purchase a new engine case, it comes without any serial numbers. I’d check with your local DMV and see what they say. If anything you could leave the number and make a paper record of the engine to indicate it is a 1600 single port. I do a full engine build sheet when I build mine. Either for me or a customer. If you check with the DMV, let us know what you find out.newkitman2012-04-28 10:46:41

I second Ed’s suggestion.

April 28, 2012 at 7:26 pm #250310I guess that makes me super smart because I had already “made note”. But, somehow, often the paperwork gets lost along the way. I’m making a metal “id” tag and going to affix it somewhere prominent on the engine.
