Hi,
For you guys with deep pockets, here’s an oil painting of a MGTC, ONLY $450.00. It’s for sale on ETSY. If you have a garage like Jay Leno, it will go well. On the other hand, I’m more like what my Australian friends in Vietnam referred to me as,“A bloke with deep pockets and short arms.” I know in their own way it was a term of endearment for their Yank Marine buddy.BillThis was painted from a 35mm photo taken at the Beverly Hills Concouse around 1985.
This is quite a large painting measuring 24″ X 36″ in size. It’s several layers of acrylic
paint on masonite. It is
mounted in a satin black metal frame and will be shipped free of charge within the
continental U.S. I do custom portraits of almost any kind of vehicle.1948 MG TC at the Beverly Hills Auto Show original painting

August 31, 2014 at 4:41 pm #261248Some one e-mailed me about the meaning of the Aussie term, “The Bloke’s got short arms and deep pockets.” Basically it refers to a guy that that doesn’t buy his round of drinks, when it’s his term. Being the savvy Marines that we were, we felt since Australia was closer to Vietnam than America, we were on their Home Turf, and therefore, they should host us. But in all honesty, we all bought lots of rounds of drinks. And for any Australian members or guests to this site, I’ll always remember when I went on R&R with my Aussie buddies to Perth, and needless to say they were top-notch hosts, had to fight them to buy a round of drinks. So if any of you visiting this site were in Vietnam in 1965 or 1966, we might have run into each other, and I owe you a round.

I lived in Australia for six years and I have to confess that that’s the first time I’ve heard the expression.
-DaveAugust 31, 2014 at 10:05 pm #261250Dave,
I was with Australian Army guys, maybe it’s a military way of expressing he’s a cheap s.o.b. Where were you in Australia. I spent a week of RR in Perth in 1966, vacation from Vietnam.BillBad Bill

I lived in the N.T. from 1984 to 1987, then from ’96 to ’99. My first son was born there in ’96. I miss it.
-DaveSeptember 1, 2014 at 11:25 am #261252Nice. But I like this one.
My car. The original photograph is in front of a long-abandoned Texaco station on Rt 191 in Hecktown PA. The artist did her own research and found pics of the station as it would have looked in the 1950s. I think I paid her $250. Painting is about 20 x 16

September 1, 2014 at 2:32 pm #261254Paul,
Liked your picture so well I copied it and resampled it in PhotoPaint, so I could blow it up, and put a copy in my work area in the garage. It has a place of honor in front of where my MGTD Replica will sit when it finally gets out of the garage. Thanks,BillBad Bill
September 1, 2014 at 6:43 pm #261255I’m honored Bill!
This is the original photo. I’m glad I got it when I did. The farmland around the old station is for sale, and the realtor sent somebody to paint over the old building.

September 1, 2014 at 7:01 pm #261256Thanks a million, I grew up in PA, a little town called Montgomery on the Susquehanna River, about 25 miles outside of Williamsport. I’m thinking about towing my FF back this fall and drive those beautiful moutain roads again.
Again thanks for the photo.BillBad Bill
