What do the round outlets on the top of the heater boxes connect to on a standard VW? The PO of my car has simply connected then together with a heater hose.
September 5, 2013 at 10:40 am #257594The outlets on the heater boxes connect to a fitting on the beetle chassis by mmeans of a flexible black tube. On the TD you need to runn a black flexible hose, similar to the hose on the fan sgroud through a hole in the TD body and under the seat bases. Check the assembly procedures in the download manuals section on the right. Look in the CMC/Fiberfab manual, part 2, page 65. That shows a good illustration of how it all goes.

The installation is also shown in the Clasic Roadsters Ltd. assembly manual on page 72 (which is page 18 in Part 4 – Body and Interior).Next to your hand brake, there are two small levers. The one on the left may be removed, it controlled the flaps that directed hot air between the front and rear foot wells. The one on the right controls cables connected to the heater boxes and opens and closes the heater boxes.PMOSSBERG2013-09-05 15:27:21

September 5, 2013 at 2:01 pm #257596I know where those hoses go, but there are two smaller ones coming from the top of the heater boxes. Oh, about 1 inch in diameter?

Not sure what holes you are referring to. Far as I know, there are four:Paul Mossberg

September 5, 2013 at 2:44 pm #257598My heater boxes have a about 1 inch nipple from the top near where the exhaust inlets are. A po has put a heater hose from one to the other effectively blocking them.

September 5, 2013 at 3:02 pm #257601If I’m right, those are for the rear window defogger that was not electric. Earlier beetles had a smaller paper hose that ran from each heater box to a “Y” pipe that ducted warm air to the rear window. newkitman2013-09-05 15:03:44

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackSeptember 5, 2013 at 3:14 pm #257602Makes sense to me. I searched for ’66 heater boxes and found a pic like the one Eddy linked.
My ’71 donor had an electric grid rear defogger. Which explains why my heater boxes are different.Paul Mossberg
