I’ve got to buy 4 new tires for my 1981 replica of a 1952 MGTD. I’m undecided whether I should get all black wall tires or whitewall with the wide whitewall. What was the most popular sidewall back in 1952.
Gangster whites are a personal choice. I’ve seen cars where they look pretty good and others where they are hideous. Owners choice as to what look they want. Scroll through the gallery and check out various photos. Good Luck.

Blackwalls were more common and were OEM for TDs. I think wide whitewalls can look stunning on them as well. Ultimately it’s gilding the lily though: these cars have so many neat details and features that whitewalls can get lost in the mix.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I did see that tires with wide whites walls are almost twice the cost of black walls. I guess there isn’t a big demand. So I think I’ll stick with black walls. Thanks guys.</p>
