Welcome, lots of knowlege and friendly people are here for your help.  Ask away.  A tip:  we get a lot of spam, so title your posts with a TD related title, such as “my new MGTD” or something and more people will read them.

    Hi Rod.

    Welcome aboard!

I’m betting the 1969 refers to the year of your donor car. I don’t think
there were any kits being manufactured that early. Although that is a
great question for the group…when was the first TD replica kit sold?

There are lots of friendly, knowledgeable people here!

    We’re glad to have you!

What is the serial # on Daytona’s tag of your TD?  According to Daytona Automotive Fiberglass Inc. the first replicar was manufactured in Feb 1975 on a VW chassis.  See: https://tdreplica.com/Manuals/DaytonaMigiPages.pdf

British automotive historian and author Mike Lawrence, in his encylopedic A to Z of Sports Cars, 1945-1990, refers to the Lafer as “the first, and most successful, of a genre of cars which have mated a fibreglass body in the style of the MG TD to a VW Beetle floorpan.” He dates production from 1972 to 1989.

There’s also a Brazilian website that says Percival Lafer didn’t start turning out his MP model until 1974, with the TI coming along three years later, but I’m depending on Google to translate from the Portuguese; it may be that 1974 was the first year of export.
