Here is a MGTDr for sale. Looks good except for stress cracks in L/F fender. VW based.
March 24, 2013 at 6:54 pm #255206I’m passing this on to a former co-worker who was interested in a VW based MG TD replica about a year ago.
March 24, 2013 at 6:55 pm #255207Hopefully they’ll buy her and keep another TD replica on the road. And join our group as well.

Slowly coming back from the ashes...March 25, 2013 at 9:00 am #255210I really hate it when a seller can???t be bothered with accuracy. And this guy ought to know better. He also has a replica Lamborghini for sale. And I believe the Jeep-like thing in the background is a kit also.
MGLR, some things for your friend to be wary of:
The title: According to 92 Ill. Adm. Code 1010.185, kit cars are titled as ???Specially Constructed??? vehicles. I have never heard of any state using ???assembled??? as on official titling term.
The ???paint???: The seller writes, ???paint is really nice has few stress cracks on the left fender I think could be buff out.??? First, the obvious that this is likely gel coat, not paint. Second, those ???stress cracks??? likely go through the fiberglass. I seriously doubt the gel coat would crack, without the fiberglass also cracking. The buyer is going to be doing fiberglass repair, then refinishing the gel coat.
The top is ???top is like new but has 2 inch rip by the windshield.??? Well then, it???s not ???like new???, is it? The windshield area is the highest stress area for these tops. It is likely a repair in that area will not last. And the buyer may well end up springing for a new top. And for what it???s worth, a photo of the tear would have been more than appropriate.
And he thinks FiberFab is still in business? Really?Bottom line, the car still looks to be pretty solid. But I don???t think it???s a $4,500 car.

Nor do I, by a long shot – $1500 to $2000 or so. I’ve passed on this one, multiple times. Plus, that is my least favorite color combo…

Slowly coming back from the ashes...March 25, 2013 at 11:18 am #255212I agree on the price range Kent.
But as an owner, I hope the seller gets $4,500.Paul Mossberg

March 25, 2013 at 1:35 pm #255213I still think that if someone was looking for a completed VW based TD replica, this would not be the worst example they could buy for the $4500. Who knows? Maybe they had always wanted one and now have the money to buy a reasonably priced (IMHO) car. The basic car still looks pretty good to me ‘cuz mine is not assembled yet.
Sure, there are some flaws, but it would get them in the fun for not too much money.March 25, 2013 at 1:48 pm #255214mustang_evets wrote:I still think that if someone was looking for a completed VW based TD replica, this would not be the worst example they could buy for the $4500. But, I saw one similar on Craig’s List in the Indianapolis area earlier, same color combo on a 1969 pan, for $2875…
Top and curtains were in good condition. It had the black vinyl dash. I ended up passing on it largely because I wanted “The Little Red Car”…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
Slowly coming back from the ashes...March 25, 2013 at 2:19 pm #255215No offense taken. I was just letting my thoughts be heard. It seems that it is getting harder to even buy a good donor car for a reasonable figure any more. This is a complete car in operating condition… I don’t know what the overall mechanical condition is but it is worth a look if someone is interested in the hobby.
