Muffler Tape Use

How many of you use the heat tape on your mufflers. This tape is sold by Mid America Motorworks and others for the header pipes. It seams its worth the cost IF it holds the heat away from the valance.

I bought a heat shield and strapped it on with some very large metal hose clamps . It works very good

I started w/ the heat tape and that helped but ended up going to a junk yard and using a SUV Cat shield and using stainless heat tape straps to strap it to my upper exhaust on top of the what I already put on – helped a lot

Thanks for the replies. I’ll have to look into the heat shield idea you folks mentioned. That’ll bbe next weekend afyer I get back from yet another TDY. Sheesh!!

I’m gping to try and use a welder’s blanket bolted underneath the splash pan, above the mufflers.  Anyone got any ideas on this?

I think there is probably a good reason you don’t see that done too much.
