There is a pair of original MGTD Windshield Posts for sale on eBay. Current price is $88. Wonder if these will fit our frames. Anyway…price seems right (at the moment)

Slowly coming back from the ashes...April 15, 2013 at 1:42 pm #255443In the post that started this thread, Allen asks if original fold down brackets will fit “our” cars.
Well…that depends! Here’s the challenge as it applies to a Classic Roadsters Duchess.Look at the picture of an original TD windshield mount first:On the Duchess, the cowl is molded with extensions that allow the windshield frame to extend straight down the side of the cowl. Essentially, the cowl fiberglass extension replace the curved area on the body side of the stock mounting posts. Look close….To fit original style fold down brackets, I would either have to grind off the extensions on the cowl and repair/repaint the cowl or grind the stock mounts flat to fit the existing cowl. Neither task would be pretty.Again, without looking at every replica manufacturer’s cowl, I’m not able to tell you whether or not this applies to YOUR car. Obviously the London Roadster cowl is not like the Duchess. This is Ed’s car:Take a close look at your own car before you spring for original fold down brackets.Caveat Emptor!PMOSSBERG2013-04-15 13:45:29

April 15, 2013 at 1:55 pm #255445Allen,
I took a look through your fotki gallery. I believe stock brackets will not work on your car without mods to the cowl or brackets. Your car has the same extensions on the cowl as my Duchess has (that right angled portion at the 41.5 inch mark)PMOSSBERG2013-04-15 13:56:11

April 15, 2013 at 7:18 pm #255446Those ebay brackets have the same weird holes as the last set. Driver’s side only, looks like. Maybe for a mirror?
BTW, those square things in the above photo were aluminum bits the PO sandwiched between the brackets and the windshield post so he could mount mirrors. I removed them in favor of a different kind of mirror:
edsnova2013-04-15 19:32:55April 15, 2013 at 7:46 pm #255447Paul – Thanks for the info. I didn’t think they would work but wanted to check before spending extra $$ on something that wouldn’t work. What I like best about those brackets is the base piece. It covers that vetrical starkness of the windshield frame. More pleasing to the eye I guess.
