Kelly Frazier of the Speedster owners is making noises about hitting the Pittsburgh Vintage GP this year. The race is July 19, but there’s like two weeks of stuff leading up to it.
I’m leaning toward trying to make it this year, if I can get the wife to agree. Two years ago we went up for the Countryside Tour on Thursday and it was super fun. We met a couple of club members while there–Bill and Audrey Haas and Dan Grant and his wife, Gaynor. But we came home Friday (two days before the race) which was, in retrospect, a mistake. Think I’d like to stay the weekend this time. Maybe have a bit more time to relax and associate with club members.Anyway, it’s looking like maybe a party. Anyone think they want to start planning something?January 6, 2015 at 4:19 am #262552I may be in for this. I have a conference from the 18th to the 21st but I think I can make the Countryside Tour. This is, of course subject to approval by the Major General. XD

January 6, 2015 at 4:49 am #262553This really looks inviting. Do you think they’d make fun of my VW TDr?
My bucket list is about complete so I’m considering it (an MT bucket list is no good). I’m going to do some more research and then bounce it off Julie. Not even sure if my retired budget will allow.
A long shot, but just maybe…..
January 6, 2015 at 7:49 am #262554Roy, click on that Countryside Tour link in my post. Is that the slide show of an event organizer who dislikes TDrs?
Vicenc: Yeah, me too. The Major General has not yet been informed of this….edsnova2015-01-06 07:50:28
January 6, 2015 at 2:08 pm #262555Ed, do you know when registration opens for the Country side tour?

January 6, 2015 at 5:14 pm #262556Should be very soon. Dude who organizes it posted on the MG board last week looking for entrants. They limit this to about 30 cars
January 6, 2015 at 7:01 pm #262557Not to take away from the Pittsburgh event, but if anyone wants to see me make fool of myself the Pagoda Hillclimb is scheduled June 27-28 in Reading, PA.

Re Pittsburgh: just got the green light from Karen. Gonna start lining stuff up, starting with the Countryside Tour.Friday looks like a “free day” in the schedule. Maybe we could get a picnic or BBQ or something cruise-like worked out with the TDr club or the TDrs and Speedies?Saturday is the qualifying and car shows at the park. There will be a place for us there. $30 entrance fee and they throw in a dash plaque and program.January 6, 2015 at 9:55 pm #262559Ed. we are in for the Countryside Tour but I’ve got to get back to Philly after that.

January 6, 2015 at 10:22 pm #262560That’s cool. We did that two years ago.
Here’s Bud Osbourne, who arranges the Countryside Tour, telling me (and you-all) where to go on Saturday if you’re there:Hi, Ed. Glad you are going to be returning to PVGP, again, this year. For Saturday, you can register in the Larry Smith Memorial Car Show, which accepts highly modified, or replica/kit cars. This would be where your friends with the 356 replicas would probably be welcomed. Another thought is to see if the VW folks would welcome you all. I suspect they might and they have a pretty nice area, down with the BMW folks and in spitting distance of the Porsche display.
I’ll make some inquiries for you, from this end and see what I can do for you.He should have sign-up stuff posted for the Countryside Tour any minute now. Here is the web site:edsnova2015-01-06 22:25:54
January 7, 2015 at 2:34 pm #262561Thanks again, Ed. I will keep an eye on the website for registration materials. When that comes up, I’ll post a heads up here for anyone that wants to join. Conversely, if you see it before I do, please, post it here.

January 20, 2015 at 8:51 pm #262564Done the same, Vic. Where you staying?
January 20, 2015 at 10:04 pm #262565I sent an email to the Century Inn for reservations. If I don’t hear something soon, I’ll find another place. How about you?

January 21, 2015 at 1:16 pm #262566Same. They just called back
January 21, 2015 at 9:04 pm #262567I’m in at the Century Inn. I booked through Saturday but might cancel the Thursday-Saturday reservation to take a room closer to the park. Any advice about best places to stay?
January 21, 2015 at 10:41 pm #262568Hi Ed,
I got a call from the Century Inn this morning and we have a room for Wednesday night. Sorry that I can’t be much help on other places to stay but I’m not really familiar with that area of PA at all. I chose the Century in because I wanted to be close to the ride. Really looking forward to it!Vicenç - (bee sense)

January 22, 2015 at 12:08 pm #262569Yeah, century is right for the ride. We stayed in town last time & had to get up early and drive 40 minutes to the start.
June 16, 2015 at 8:30 pm #262570Bump.
Anyone else up for any shenannigans around the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix? Karen and I are booked at the Century Inn Wednesday night through Saturday. Anyone have any Friday or Saturday plans? I’m kind of wanting to check out the Saturday festivities in the park.June 17, 2015 at 8:31 am #262571We’ll definitely see you on Wednesday and Thursday.

June 17, 2015 at 9:31 pm #262572Now looking like a late run up to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Just found out today i have a training thing at work until 3 p.m. Four hours’ drive & we probably won’t get underway much before five. Which means rush hour, which means another hour on the road. Thinking 10 p.m. Dang.
June 17, 2015 at 9:55 pm #262573Again, anyone gonna be around Friday or Saturday? Saturday=Big Car SHow and qualifying laps. Bridget will be parking here, in the international field.
June 23, 2015 at 8:23 pm #262574–Or the VW field. Just got this from Bud Osbourne (one of the hosts) today:
Ed,
Several months back, I promised to get an answer for you as to which display your car, as well as your friends??? cars, would be eligible to display on Saturday, July 18, at Schenley Park. In my defense, I did ask the question, of the right person. It just took him a while to get back to me.
Your VW-based MG TD replica will be welcomed, with open arms, in the VW display area, which is immediately next to the BMW show and offers some great viewing areas for the races (my family and I, along with our Porsche 356 friends, often watch the races from that area). So, please let your friends know (do I need to let Mr. Feliu know, or are you in touch with him?).
June 24, 2015 at 11:55 am #262575Ed, what were the available “fields”/display areas? I surmise that you and Vincenc were the only “kit” cars there???
IMHO you (a Subi powered TD body double) really don’t have much in common with a VW except for chassis.
