Hi Guys!!
SSIMGTD here and still trying to get the power steering system installed on my car!
Really long story which I wont bore you all with but we have one now that should work have installed it, bled out all the lines and we are STILL getting shuddering in the steering wheel when we try to turn it back and forth with engine cranking or turning over. We have bled out a LOT of air (think the unit was shipped dry!) however we are at the point where the shuddering will stop if we touch the wheel. Cranking over the wheel with the engine running is really hard in addition to fighting the shuddering but the wheel will give a little more easily when the engine is off. The reservoir is now running full so there appears to be full fluid exchange.Any suggestions as to what may be going on at this point?

Sounds like the proportioning valve in the rack has issues. Where did you get the parts? Are they used, new, rebuilt? A mix of all three?

June 15, 2009 at 2:37 pm #239073You may need to undo the return line to flush the system.
Undo return line at pump. plug that fitting at the pump. Keep the powersteering resivour full while turning the wheel all the way left to all the way right several times with the car running. Have a bucket to catch the return line fluid. Turn off the engine and rehook up the return line. Your looking for the fresh colored fuild to exit the return line bucket.

Follow Rob’s advice first. Do it with the wheels off the ground. There may be some air or debris in the system.
