Hello everyone, my name is Joe Monesmith and I purchased “liquidice’s” CMC MGTD a month ago. I’ve had much success lately and recently I’ve been replacing the brakes and have run unto a snag.
I understand that the donor is a 1985 Chevette, but the 1985 replacement caliper has a 5″ center to center (CTC) bolt spacing but the car’s caliper is a different design, with a 3″ CTC spacing. Both are single piston units and the replacement disc is the same design and size.
Has anyone run into this issue. I’m thinking the Chevette front end equipment may be from another year or sub-model. Having purchased the caliper and rotor would it make sense to buy the 1985 steering knuckle? Could the proper steering knuckel replacement still work with the location of the other steering components that are on my chassis?

I have not had to look mine up I got all the paper work from when mine was built but a quick thing if it is a single bbl carb. it would be 1.4 75-77 good luck DanDan R40623.8757986111

I have a double barreled carb with engine # 14015685 plus A281 on the casting and E16224604 on the automatic trans. Unfortunately I have none of the original vehicle paperwork, being the fourth owner of this project (only the numbers on a hand-written transfer from Ian (liquidice). I will follow up using these numbers.

Ray10,
Rick is incredible? My MGTD has brakes of an 1981 to 1982 vintage (smaller calipers) than the 1985 replacements that I purchased. Rich is sending me the newer brackets that my 1985 calipers must mount to. The mystery has been solved. Rick also helped me with many other parts requirements yesterday. Thanks for this terrific resource.
