When you fiberglass the pan to the body is it then not removable? I have only read the online instructions.
October 13, 2014 at 10:03 am #261743My body is bolted down to the pan, so this is not really an “informed opinion.” But I imagine you could grind away the fiberglass at the pan and remove the body that way.

October 13, 2014 at 10:22 am #261744I did not build my TDr. Aren’t all the TD kit bodies bolted to the frame? My Daytona Migi is.
October 13, 2014 at 10:49 am #261745Fiberfab just bolted
October 13, 2014 at 8:41 pm #261746Mine has many, many bolts. The builder, Graham Horner, also did the right thing by squeezing about 25 tubes of silicone caulk between the body and pan before snugging the bolts.
October 13, 2014 at 8:54 pm #261747I guess the steering support bar that is welded to frame could be made removable.
October 22, 2014 at 11:19 am #261748Yes pan bolts to frame but body fiberglass to pan? Seams like this traps the steering/brake bar. I have not started assembly of my kit only building in my head
October 22, 2014 at 1:01 pm #261749Yes, you’d have to remove the steering column and brake rod to pull the body.
My VW based Classic Roadsters Ltd. Duchess supports the steering column at the “firewall.” There is no other support welded to the VW pan.I suspect most of this thread is mixing apples and oranges….or more accurately, mixing front engine and VW rear engine based kits. Are you assembling a front engine or rear engine? Understanding this will be key to the conversation.I suspect you are building a front engine car, because of your comment “…pan bolts to frame but body fiberglass to pan….”A front engine TDr, with a custom frame needs a fiberglass floor, which I bet is what you are calling “pan.”Most of the replies above are from owners of VW based cars. When we say “pan” we are talking about the VW pan/frame/chassis. Our TDr bodies are bolted directly to that with no other floor.I’m also curious why you are concerned about removing the body. Sounds like you haven’t built your TDr yet…and you want to know how to take it apart?Paul Mossberg
