I use synthetic or semi-synthetic in the daily drivers to stretch the time between changes and because it may lubricate better in the mean time.
Bridget gets regular oil because, as an air-cooled VW with no oil filter, I need to change her oil every 1500 miles or less, owing to the amount of “fuel wash” her magnesium engine naturally causes.
Dig?
I could (and did) use a synthetic but since the oil is in the crank case for so little time–and because synthetic 20-50 mixed with gasoline is not better than regular 10-40 mixed with gas, I quickly returned to Valvoline racing oil and then (more recently) a 15-40 oil formulated for diesel engines
The ZDDP in that oil is the important thing, supposedly.
If you’re running a Ford or Chevy engine synthetic makes more sense. Change it once a season–or maybe even less…
