    @captain-jack

    I have just purchased a Replica with a ’79 VW 1600 CC engine.  After the car warms up, when I go to shift into first, the transmission grinds and the car does not go into first gear.  I can start the car with my foot on the clutch and the car in first and it works fine.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Do you have any free play in your clutch pedel?If there is too much it will not completely disengage when you step on it.Or,your clutch may just be getting bad.Warped disc,weak pressure plate,dragging pilot bearing,chances are good that the problem is just in the clutch.It is not a big job and the parts are reasonable.You also don”t need the high tech,super duty expensive clutches either unless you are running big HP.That little car is a lot lighter than the original Beetle and a stock clutch will hold up fine.
