Have any of you considered converting to a VW wasserboxer ?   I am getting more annoyed every day with this antique aircooled engine!  I WAS thinking of a type 4, even bought a 1.7, but if I’m going to all that work why not get liquid cooling?

soob it. That’s what a lot of guys with wasserboxers are doing. Many Speedster replicas are getting them now too. google subaru VW swap & you’ll get the idea.

Of course, Subi would be the ultimate choice! I have a 2012 Subaru outback and love it. but a wasserboxer would be a lot less expensive conversion AND more of a boltin than a subi. My MG is my toy car, I don’t want a lot more money tied up in it!

Hmm. What’s your budget & expected expenditure for a VW wasserboxer?

Or better: what’s your problem with the Type 1 you have now? Maybe you have a $100 problem there.
Mine’s hella old (1966 single relief case, est 250,000 miles) and getting loose; only reason I’m retiring her. I figured a nice 1835 or 1915 build would set me back about $4,000 and still leave me with an intake headache, as the BCW doesn’t have room for dual carbs or even a 32/36 progressive without some serious skin mods.
It is my intention to complete the Soob ej22 swap for less than $3,000, and I have some hope I may net out at less than $2,500 (depends on what I get for the donor car’s remains). Still a ridiculous expense for a “toy” car, I know, but spending time on the Speedster board and hearing Jake Raby drop occasional hints about the expense associated with his remaining Type 4 builds makes me feel like a righteous cheapskate.

I can get a wasserboxer in there close to free except for the rad and plumbing which should be the same as a Subie would be. The van guys are wanting rid of their wasserboxers because they are so underpowered in a huge Vanagon or Westy
