Want to reply to myself in case it helps anyone in the future.

The seal needs to be the right size: 36x60x9.5 worked much easier than the other larger types I tried.

Anything large enough to encompass the seals diameter will work to hammer on. I used a spool of soldering wire, but even a specific seal drivers can be bought at Harbor Freight for…[Read more]

I cannot seem to get this final drive seal on my transmission. I wanted to use a socket and hammer it in, but I do not own a big enough socket to do so. It seems like the 36x60x45 seal I have tried using was too large, and subsequent seals that I have bought have not fit either. I bought some 36x60x36 seals to try again for the third time.

    I want…[Read more]

Just finished all the engine work I needed to do on my TDR. Now, the car runs and drives as it should. I initially expected that 60 hsp was going to feel really slow compared to other cars I have driven, but now that I have been able to take the car out for a spin, I can say that my TDR really moves.

I am pleasantly surprised by how fast the car felt.

What kind of screws or bolts have yall used to on fiberglass? I am trying to bolt on an oil cooler below that trunk area of my TD and have no idea what hardware to use.

    Thanks,

I bought some fog lights for my car, but am not too sure how I want to install them. On my car, the bar in front of the grill is too far forward to put them on the body, so I was thinking the would have to be mounted to the bar itself. Not sure how I will do that, but maybe a trip to Home Depot or some advice will give me some ideas.

    I also have…[Read more]

I went with the 4 tip that you suggested, I am very happy with it. I think it delivers a good sound for a pretty cheap price. I showed the old man and he really likes it.

Getting those heater boxes out was tough with the way that the engine and the extra framing sits in my car, I decided to go with the unsafe and risky method of using a sawzaw to…[Read more]

  • Have you thought about getting a hard start relay? They are really easy to install and they are like 15 bucks.

  • I may be able to help with your VW carb. What Carb are you running?

    For your horn:

    Does it work aleady?

If your isolated horn already works, it may be as simple as changing the routing of your wires to go up the steering shaft. If you take off your steering wheel, you should see exactly how the wires go from the shaft up through the steering…

Thank you for your suggestion! I found a video and think that it sounds good + its affordable for a college guy.

How was the sound?  Could you describe it as you remember? I had a hard time finding a lot of videos on yt of this specific exhaust

Was it really loud, too loud to enjoy the ride?

    Thanks,

My exhaust system is rusted and not properly installed on my car. So, I am looking to get a new  exhaust for my VW based TD. I am not sure if the TD body makes it harder/impossible to install some systems that would normally fit on a beetle. So, I would like to know what y’all are running 🙂

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for a exhaust…[Read more]

I would really like a new steering wheel for my TD. It has one of those 80 dollar amazon ones that is too small to even read the gauges. I really liked the banjoed style wheels I have seen on some people’s TDs. To those who know, are they VW steering wheels? Are they the orginal TD steering wheels? Is there need for an adapter if you buy an…[Read more]

Read your article that you linked. It was a good read. I think that I will do the same

  • Just so happened to come across this post. I knew i recognized this specific car and then I remembered that it is for sale near where I live. I was looking into trying to purchase it before I found a better deal. Anyways, here is the link https://www.facebook.com/share/xvrzWM6oc5Nd7qAk/?mibextid=79PoIi

Was showed this site by someone else on the form, they have a bunch of replacement parts:

    https://mgmagicclassicmotorparts.com/interior/?page=7

I am not sure if they have a speedometer for the mg replica specifically, but it may be worth a check to see if the ones they have are the right size.

thanks, was able to figure out I have a 66 and not a 73 as I was told by the seller. Glad I found out before I bought a new carb, going to be buying the EMPI 30PICT-1 Carburetor

  • How easy are fiber fab accessory parts (replacement mirrors, tops, etc) to get? I have seen some sites selling these parts, but I would like to know if  availability has always been good or if I should stockpile extra pieces?

    many thanks,

  • I just had a very poor experience with the company Amerifreight Auto Logistics Corp (M.C# 1596630). I was promised a $200 payment to transport my car from Abilene to Conroe (about a 6hr drive) on April 6. After waiting around the drop off location all day, they call me at night saying no one is picking up my car anymore and that I will need to…[Read more]
