newkitman replied to the topic Question About Tonneau Covers in the forum General Discussion 9 years, 2 months ago
I have a Tonneau Cover and rather than use the snaps from the kit, I think I’ll use Lift-the-dots. And use Lift-the-Dots on the convertible top on the rear, sides and door panels and use the snaps on the windshield frame. I also highly recommend a good cleaner for the Tonneau and the Top.

Roy. No offense taken. The individual who coached me to consider it a large diode obviously was wrong. Thanks for the education.

I will be keeping the battery in front of the gas tank as designed and I will purchase the battery cable from Franklin Battery (a local automotive electrical shop). I think a 72 inch cable will be enough but my rough measurements say 116 inches. Does my measurement sound to long?

Toller. Another test I was shown was to disconnect the condenser terminal from the points and ohm it out. It should read one way and hardly at all or nothing the other way. If it reads in both directions its bad. I was told to think of it as a large diode passing lots of voltage one way and almost none the other way.

I second that. Have had those same indications on a number of condensers that have failed. That’s another reason to switch to electronic ignition. But I carry a new set of points and a new condenser in a plastic bag as an emergency replacement.

Hi there Stirling.
You are going to have a great time working on the TD and cars with your dad when you grow older. Great looking son you both have. Congrats to you and his mom. You are truly blessed my friend. Oh…the TDr can wait in this case. Stirling carries higher priority. 🙂

Bill, Ed. Did either of you cut the hardboard where the door pocket is? Thanks for your replies.

Need to install the door panel upholstery. I don’t think any manual actually calls for installing 3/16″ cardboard underneath the upholstery but I’m thinking of adding it. has anyone used something as a backer for the door upholstery? If so, what did you use.

newkitman started the topic CMC vs Fiberfab Assembly Manuals in the forum VW Based Kits 9 years, 2 months ago
As many know, CMC purchased Fiberfab when Fiberfab decided to stop TDr production. I am an owner of one of those kits and there is more differences than just the kit parts. When checking the Fiberfab manual and comparing it against CMC’s manual, I found the Fiberfab manual is less confusing to use. Just one instance is the windshield…[Read more]

Hmm…Intercourse. I was thinking it was a strange name but in remembering my travels in Indiana, there is French Lick so not so strange I guess.
There are a lot of Amish in north central and northeast Ohio between Columbus and Cleveland. I think they live peaceful lives but never have understood that they can work in an establishment with…[Read more]

This morning I meandered to the county DMV. I was a little leery since my last visit to the local DMV but these folks were in a totally different league. I brought all the GA required paperwork to title a kit car and had the inspection sheet signed off by the county sheriff’s office and the insurance paperwork. Told them I wanted to title the…[Read more]
