Hi Guys!!
It’s been a long while since I have communicated on this site. I wanted to let you know that I am selling my FiberFab Kit Car. I will likely be posting it on EBay the first of June but I wanted to give club members first opportunity if there are interested parties.
You can see photos in the RichBelfay gallery. The car has a Ford Mustang V-6 that was fully rebuilt in 1988 by the original owner. It has only 17K miles and runs great! This has a 4 Speed Manual transmission. I’d like to get $6K for it, but I am willing to negotiate and consider any reasonable offer.
The car is titled, currently registered and has a valid inspection sticker in Massachusetts.
As to why am I selling it? I just went over to the “dark side” and bought a 2004 Honda S2000! Can’t keep ’em both.
Thanks,
Rich
May 15, 2011 at 10:32 am #244534What a sweet car.
The wife of a good friend (and Speedster owner) has an S2000. Very fun ride!
Sorry to hear you are letting go of the TD.
But hope you stay here!

May 15, 2011 at 1:37 pm #244535With that engine it must move out rather well – I would love to do a test
drive. Good luck on the sale
May 15, 2011 at 8:19 pm #244536Sorry to hear your selling, Rich. $6k sounds very reasonable for that car, particularly if it’s as clean and well-sorted as the photos indicate. I was really hoping you’d drive it down to Carlisle so we could see it up close.
Maybe the new owner will. You’re welcome any time in the S2000. Those are sweet too.
May 31, 2011 at 8:44 pm #244537Hi Guys,
My car is now listed on EBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem& ;item=150612786622
I’ve started in at $3500. If you know of anyone that is looking, this is a very nice car (not as nice as some other members’ cars, but not bad!)
I’d like to see it go to a nice home and I know it has many hours of fun left in it!
All the Best!
Rich
June 1, 2011 at 2:08 pm #244538VERY tempting Rich …PM me.
Those S-2000’s are SAH-WEET!!! What color is yours?
June 2, 2011 at 12:15 pm #244539Whatda’ mean, can’t have both? I do. My Honda S2000 is a blast to drive and the London Roadster I have is a kick, too. But they are two different cars. I keep the Odyssey in case I need to transport anything or have more than 2 people to move.
Your V6 engine sounds great. I bet it moves a bit faster than our VW engines.
June 2, 2011 at 12:22 pm #244540Wow, if I hadn’t just bought my London Roadster, I would be very tempted. Red is my first color of choice and the power of the V6 is something I would treasure.
June 2, 2011 at 12:41 pm #244541Rich,
In your photo gallery, I see Massachusetts Antique plates on your car. But in the e-bay ad, it looks like standard plates.
What is the car titled as? And how is she registered now? Antique? Standard passenger car? Something else?

June 2, 2011 at 12:51 pm #244542All,
Yeah, the V6 is a very nice engine for this light car.
Mark, not sure I could do anything now that I have a bonafide EBay bid on the car.
BTW, the S2000 is Gran Prix White! I still have my Acura 3.5 RL too. Something just has to go, and the MG was the most obvious choice. MGLondonRoadster, I agree both are very fun and different rides. I worked on the MG all day last Saturday, and when I wasn’t detailing it I was driving it. It is a different ride and as much as I love the S2000, the MG just has that “road” feel that is fun and different. The ride position (pretty much everything above your waistline is up in the air) makes a big difference to visibility and feel. The Mustang II drive train (particularly the Rack/Pinion steering and Coil/Over Shocks) really make this a very nice handling car. Certainly not as tight as the S2000, but great on the back road curves. If I could come up with any rational reason to keep both, I would have.
Thanks for the feedback.
Rich
June 2, 2011 at 12:56 pm #244543Paul,
I had just put my Dad’s old Antique plate on it while I was still working on it and before I registered it in 2009. It is now registered as a regular passenger car. Mass. has it a Make of “COMP” short for Composite Vehicle.

June 2, 2011 at 1:00 pm #244544Rich, you are very logical. I didn’t say I was rational in having both. Ha, Ha! I’m getting feelings to sell my London Roadster and maybe bid on your V8. I’ve got coil over shocks, but as someone else said, they are at an extreme angle and I don’t know how effective they are.
The S corners like she’s on rails but my London Roadster is not so tight. She operates more like a VW. The S has spoiled me for wanting more power in a little car.
June 2, 2011 at 2:14 pm #244545Yeah, I looked at the photos in your gallery and I see what you mean about the extreme angle. I don’t know much about the London Roadster kit. The FiberFab kit is sort of your “everyman’s” basic replica. I always liked it, but when I compare it to something like “Ringo’s” Classic Roadster Duchess, I am humbled. It won’t command the money that his car would (if he was ever willing to part with it), but it is a LOT of fun and has been VERY reliable.
The 2.8 liter V-6 is perfect for the size of this car. The 4 speed is actually geared right and with the extra power that “feeling like you need to downshift” just goes away. It has been a GREAT ride. I’ll be sad to see it go

June 7, 2011 at 7:27 pm #244546Prologue,
My car sold for just over $6K. A very fair price for a nice car. It will be travelling from Mass. to Oklahoma City. Hope Johann decides to join you guys!
I did put in a sincere pitch for TDReplica.com in my ad. You guys have been great!
Thanks,
Rich
June 7, 2011 at 7:32 pm #244547I think Johann got a good deal. Good on ya, Rich.
June 7, 2011 at 7:46 pm #244548I watched the bidding on this car. The price went up by $1200 in the last minute. I’m sure that Rich was relieved. The winner won with a snipe with 13 seconds to go. Nicely done. Nice car too.
June 7, 2011 at 8:42 pm #244549All,
Hope Johann isn’t reading this ’cause I told him I parked it for him, but I had to take it for one more short nostalgic back road ride. That car is still Sweeeet! Hope he enjoys it as much as I did! If you’re reading this Johann, I was VERRRY gentle!
Still hate to see it go, but I’m happy with the sale price,
Thanks to you all!
Rich
June 12, 2011 at 4:07 am #244550I bid on it and got out snipped. I did try Rich. I would have loved to have that one.
June 12, 2011 at 7:44 am #244551Rich: get another one after you tire of the Honda. Next one, put an S2000 engine in it somehow!
June 15, 2011 at 10:12 am #244552I’ve thought about putting a Honda S2000 engine and transmission in an MG, but I don’t think there is enough room up front. I know it was done in a Morgan, but that’s a larger vehicle, I believe.
June 19, 2011 at 9:57 pm #244553All,
Thanks for the feedback guys. This should give you an idea about the resale value of your vehicles, should you ever decide to part with them. Mine is a nice mid-class replica that went for over $6k. I know that it doesn’t hold a candle to many of the cars I have seen on this site. I think the V6 got a lot of attention, but I also think the straight forward, honest approach helps as well. Lots of pictures, a little (real) background and history seems to play well with the bidders. There is a market out there for sure. I had 22 bids, including TD Replica club members. These cars are 25+ year old replicas or 60ish year old designs that looked dated the day they rolled off the assembly line. There is nothing else like them. The originals (apologies to the purists) are under powered, over priced, and electrically and mechanically inferior to most replicas. These cars, replicas or not, NEVER fail to draw attention. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the S2000. There is really no comparison to the MG replica. But, the Replica has a feel to it that cannot compare to any modern vehicle. I am truly going to miss this car.
Also, (Mark, I know you have a different opinion) my EBay experience has been very positive. I guess there are ways to manipulate any system and EBay is no exception, so I will not attempt to defend it. All I can say is that I have had very positive buying experiences and a few have been challenges, but all have worked out. I have not found a better and faster way to reach bidders.
All the best guys. I will still check in from time to time.
Thanks,
Rich

July 1, 2011 at 8:26 am #244555All,
Well, yesterday at 4:15 EST lil’ red rolled on to a car transport headed for Oklahoma City. The truck driver immediately fell in love with the car and said he wanted to put it up right behind the tractor so it would be protected. Nice. I have to admit there was a definite heart tug.
On the positive side, this was a smooth EBay transaction (Yes, Mark, they do happen every once in a while!). Nice guy, good communication, checks cleared, and I think he’ll be happy with his purchase. I always loved the car.
The S2000 is just a whole different car with smooth power, creature comforts, actual side windows, power roof, etc. but there’s something to that “pioneer” feel of driving that MG, knowing you might get wet at any moment, the ability to reach back and actually touch the rear tire, or hold on to the running board while driving! Man, I had a blast with that car.
To paraphrase Paul Simon, ‘Preserve your memories, there all that’s left you’ and to paraphrase the other Paul, Hope to see all of you down the road!!

July 1, 2011 at 11:26 am #244557Sad, but glad is the feeling. Weird when life is that way.
I am glad your eBay transaction went fine. I’ve always had good one’s when I was the seller…no luck as a buyer when it’s a vehicle.
I am “TD-less” right now since Larry Murphy did my old BCW proud. There’ll be another when the dust settles after my retirement and house sale. Only 76 days to the former. The latter is a real PITA in this economy.
Stick around…you’re an asset to the forum. Good Luck and Happy Motoring
