Thanks guys. Would love to get some details on how the car is built. Like what mods, if any, were done to the stock VW chassis and just how the car was put together. I have a couple of the original brochures but they are for the Nissan powered models. Nothing on the VW powered ones. I’ve searched the internet but don’t come up with much on the Allison Replicar company. If anyone has any info I would love to have it.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll PM Richard. Hopefully he has some additional info. Here’s what I know about the car. To my knowledge the Allison Replicar Ltd  company manufactured the MGTD with two options. One with a VW drive train and one with a Nissan drive train. I don’t know if the type with the Nissan drive train ever got off the ground but I have 3 of the original brochures along with a spec sheet for the model having the Nissan drive train. Also have one of Ken Allison’s business cards. All in excellent condition. The spec sheet shows the delux model with real wire knock off type rims with a MSRP of $21,900 and the standard model with standard slotted steel rims and MG hubcaps for $19,800. Which was pretty expensive for the early 1980’s. The cars were built on an as ordered basis and required a non refundable deposit of $2,000. They came with a 1 year or 12,000 mile warranty and offered an automatic trans and air conditioning as options on the nissan powered models. The body had a lifetime warranty against stress cracks and the jellcoat is a minimum of 39 mils thick. I’ll see if I can scan the broshure and price list/spec sheet I have and post it.

As far as the top goes the one I got with the car is factory. The 2 bow unit mounts to a bimini type bracket on top of the body rail behind the seat like on a boat and the top is made to fold down or be removed all together. It’s torn so I am gonna have to get a new one made. Hopefully they can match the side curtins which are in like new condition. The side curtins attach similiar to the way the jeep YJ models did. There’s a pin at one end and a U shaped bracket at the other. The pin slips into a hole in the top of the door and the U shaped bracket slips behind a mount on the inside of the door and is securred with a one wing wing nut. I haven’t looked closely but I think the window zipps to open and close. I’ll get some pics for you and post them.

I don’t think the boot is supposed to be used with the top attached as it uses the same snaps as the top does in the back. It’s mainly there for looks when the top is removed so you don’t see any of the snaps. There is a huge amount of detail in this car that I haven’t seen on the other kits. I would love to know how many were made. I’ll try to get some pics up for you.
