Randy here with an MGTD replica made by Rich Industries in Port Elizabeth South Africa which I have owned since about 1993. Its a 1986 English Ford Escort (Cortina) straight 4 cylinder but is light and flies with only 1600 CC of power. Please feel free to contact me. I have wondered if anyone else owned a similar vehicle.

I must have the only one in the country made by Rich Industries in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on a 1986 Ford Cortina (english ford escort) It's a 1600cc straight four cylinder front engne, 4 speed, changed from right side driver to left side with several shafts and u-joints. BEBOP because I once had an MGB with license plate MG-BEPOP in Virginia.

I do believe this is our first TD from Rich Industries. As I commented in your picture post, I’ve been around this hobby for years (built my TD in 1982!) and don’t recall ever seeing a Rich Industries car.
Again, welcome to our little club!

February 14, 2012 at 1:28 pm #249155Welcome Randy. Glad to have you on the forum. You have a great MGTD replica. Look in DavidP ‘s photo gallery for a car that closely resembles yours.Same wheels and hub caps ,which I have not seen anywhere else.He is in Africa and his car is right hand drive.I had not been able to figure out what manufacturer produced it but it just may be another Rich Industries car. We would appreciate more pictures and additional information. This is a rare car!!!
February 15, 2012 at 9:16 pm #249156Rich Industries rings a bell. Do they make a Speedster too?
February 15, 2012 at 11:04 pm #249157Rich Industries is listed in this article, but there is no photo to go with it.
http://www.mgcars.org.uk/mgtd/mgtd_reproductions.htmFebruary 22, 2012 at 12:05 pm #249158THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES. I feel very welcome. I am in Sun Lakes AZ south of Phoenix and next to Chandler near the edge of the Gila River Indian reservation. I’m not certin if Rich Industries made a Speedster. I got mine from a guy In Dallas about 1995. Acording to him it was built on a brand new English Ford Escort frame converted to left hand drive with a semi-complicated series of U-joints for the TD replica assembly. It only had 20,000 kilometers on it when I got it. It has a vinyl top which is a sight easier to put on than an MGB but in all these years I only had the top on once. I had to get a starter for it out of london and have a spare master cylinder but don’t actually know if it will fit when the time comes. At one point it was starting slow and after much work I fixed the problem by just replacing the ignition wire with a little bigger wire. It took a couple years to find points for the Bosch distributor which Napa told me was from an Audi boat motor. So I got 2 sets. I have to dis-assemble half the car to put in points, so one time I tried to put in a Pertronics electronic ignition distributor but it backfired at about 2500 rpm and the same at 180 degrees opposite. I would try it again if I thought I could get it to work. YES, I saw that mention in the magazine but thats as fas as I got as well.

February 22, 2012 at 9:48 pm #249161Welcome. I’m also in central AZ, living in Phoenix, so we aren’t too far apart. My VW engine is coming together nicely, but still not mounted into the vehicle yet. I’m down your way often, or almost that far south, so if you’re open to visitors, I can stop by to see your treasure toy.
February 23, 2012 at 1:14 pm #249162TO: MGLondon, sure you can come by sometime I am free most days. You better be carefull with an 1800cc VW! I had a ’63 VW when I was in Germany and it was fast with only 1200cc. They used to sell an auxillary cooling unit for bored out VW dune buggys because the cylinder walls get thin and heat up like an old pontiac. TO Ringo: I will try to find more pictures. I might have to scan some old ones if I find them. We all have to try to remember to look at this every couple of days. Thanks.

February 23, 2012 at 3:54 pm #249163I’m adding a second oil cooling unit, so with that, the dog house, added tin and virtually a brand new motor, I hope she runs problem free for a long time.

Well, I had the thing since early 90’s and moved a few times and its gone downhill a lot but its still cute from a distance. You may be right about the guy in Africa having the same vehicle. I am not certin what the wheels are but the hub-caps are AUDI. What makes them look good are the MG patches glued to the inner circle. I have been unable to find new clips to hold the hubcaps on and I think I am now down to three per wheel.Welcome Randy. Glad to have you on the forum. You have a great MGTD replica. May 12, 2015 at 12:33 am #249165Hi Guys
Another newbie here in Az. I am in the Tucson region having taken ownership of my car on the 9th of May 15. The car has been in this area for 4 years but has only covered 4300 miles in that time. The ten owner purchased the car in Vegas, he in turn purchased the car in Socal. It has a 68 frame with a 71 DP engine. The paint colour is a light metallic red with tan interior. The car has no top at all. It also has no spare wheel.
Questions so far.
Is there any way to increase the leg room for the passenger. It seems about 4″ less than the driver. Can I cut the footwell out and extend it forwards a few inches?
The second issue that of boiling fuel in the fuel filter and carb. I know these motors have some kind of pre heater in the manifold. Could this be the issue??
Thanks
John
May 12, 2015 at 3:40 am #249166Welcome. I know you’ll enjoy the car. I’m sure the VW guys will be able to help with your concerns. Just wait for them to wake up.

"Drive Happy"May 12, 2015 at 6:17 am #2491671. Yes. The footwell is usually fiberglass. On mine there is a void behind it. BUT…what is behind yours? Some have a gas tank there maybe.
2. Leave the carb heat alone. Instead look at your cooling tins and at the way your fuel line is routed.
May 12, 2015 at 11:00 am #249168Hi Ed
Thank you for the prompt reply. What exactly am I looking for with regard to the cooling tins? The fuel line is routed over the top of the tins and therefore away from the heat as much as possible.

Fixing the right foot well on my Fiberfab is high on my list as well. Plenty of room under mine and not sure why they made it shorter.May 13, 2015 at 11:00 am #249170Hi Schu,
very little intel as to why the passenger footwell is so much shorter than the drivers. I have to try and work something else out other than what we have now. I moved the seat back 2″ and that helped some but nowhere near enough. Keep in touch and we can share notes on what we find and how we fix it! Thanks John
