While at the FL. Bug Jam I asked a friend who has a FiberFab Jaguar SS-100 kit about his emergency flashers. He said he doesn’t have one and that if I ask around an talk with the dune buggy folks they don’t use them either. So that made me wonder if there are any members who have the emergency flasher switch and relay in their TDs? And is the emergency flasher system a system not needed in certain states but is a requirement in other states? It would appear that it is NOT a requirement in FL.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackNovember 12, 2012 at 3:26 am #252863The Feds mandated flashers for the 1968 model year.
The MG’s and that Jag XK should be exempt from that mandate.
Check your states requirements, though, regarding reconstructed vehicles.
The inspection station issuing the sticker should know the requirements.Bill Ascheman

In Georgia, if a car is older than 25 years you don’t even need a title. Just a bill of sale, license, insurance to get it registered. I hear up in Atlanta they do emission testing. I can get a title if I want to pay the extra amount. Might do that anyway should someone from out of state purchase my TD after I become worm dirt.Allen Caron

Run a wire from the hot lead on one turn signal to the hot lead on the second turn signal, with a toggle switch in the middle of the lead. Turn on one turn signal, flip the switch to the on position and voila, instant four way flasher.Paul Mossberg

November 12, 2012 at 2:47 pm #252868Ed,
Any kind of special wiring arrangement or is it wired like the assembly manual says to wire it?Allen Caron

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackNovember 12, 2012 at 3:25 pm #252869Allen, aren’t you the guy that don’t need no stinking inspection sticker? I just turn on my left turn signal, – no emergency flashers. But, if you insist, just like Paul says, just run a jumper between the two wires that come from the turn signal stalk. Put a toggle switch in the jumper and voila, if the switch is “on” you have 4 way flashers. They will flash at about double the rate of your normal turn signals, but hey…..who’s counting.

November 12, 2012 at 4:42 pm #252870I decided not to worry about them. I’ll put a 12V plug where the emergency flasher switch was going to go. But I do have to decide on putting the heat exchangers in or just run J-tubes. Still undecided on that. newkitman2012-11-12 16:52:32

November 12, 2012 at 5:04 pm #252872Allen, I’ve read somewhere that the engine will run hotter with j tubes but can’t find it. If you have the heat exchangers, why not use them? If you were ever wondering what the inside of a heat exchanger looks like, below is a cross section of both.November 12, 2012 at 6:33 pm #252873Sorry, Allen, I have no idea how they’re wired. The VW flasher was one of several items I did not have to rewire when I tackled the instrument cluster last year.
November 12, 2012 at 6:46 pm #252874Thanks for checking Ed. Roy, I don’t have the heat exchangers, but if I decide to go with heat I’ll probably get them locally. NAPA has them or can get them.

The “lightweight” boxes are not good!
