I am in need of some close-up photos with something to show measurements of the following areas:

    1. The complete rear license plate light and the bracket that mounts it to the back of the MiGi TD.

    2. The windshield and the aluminum frame that holds it. I have the outer frame but do not have the lower bar or gasket. How tall is the windshield glass itself?

    3. The fiberglass inner structure for the chrome plated radiator shell.

Any help would be very appreciated.

    Hey Steve,

The licence plate mounting bracket is different on almost every TDr that I have seen.  Mine is simply a piece of 1 1/4″ aluminum bent to an “L” and pop riveted to the side of the engine cover.  The light is the same is used on many English sports cars and is available from MG Magic.

Regarding the windshield, you may have trouble finding it.  There are 2 different heights for the TDr windscreens that I have seen.  Do you have a top?  Is your car going to be a fair weather driver? If so, why not consider getting Brooklands racing screens like Ed uses?  Who needs a windshield?   Super sexy (the screens, – Ed, not so much).  Two of these screens would cost you about $250 from Moss.
If I see a windscreen, I’ll let you know.  Come to Carlisle, – it’d be your best shot at finding one.

MG Magic has the windshield frame [ no glass] for $215.

    Thank you for the replies.

I have a manual that came with the kit so I will look in it to see if I can get an idea of the mounting bracket for the rear plate.

I have the upper frame for the window but not the bottom channel or gasket. I guess the best route is the new frame from MG Magic. It is flat glass from the looks of it so shouldn’t be too hard to get one cut from safety glass.

Oh well, it IS a project. 🙂

Any auto glass shop can cut you a new windshield for cheap. It is flat.

The Brooklands screens are super sexy–and can be had quite a bit cheaper than Moss’s price. But if they’re all you got, it’s especially not nice when it rains. Highly recommend the full windshield.

    Love the banjo steering wheel.
Is the lay down windshield in your photo available anywhere?

    Bill:

That looks like the light I have only in better shape. It sounds like there isn’t a wrong way to mount the light and plate so I’ll be creative.
    Thanks, Steve

Steve: the windshield came with the car. It’s pretty similar to the TD unit but a little cheaper. I think the swing brackets are true TD repros.

The way to make yours like mine is to buy a TD windshield and adapt it. They come up on ebay every so often.

The main potential problems: 1. the replica cowls usually have a molded-in stanchion to mount the straight windshield that is meant for the kit. If yours is like that, fitting a TD-style one would require grinding that off and re-glassing it.

    2. I’m not sure if the width is exactly right. And if it isn’t, making the TD rig fit will be very much a p.i.t.a.
