I’m tired of NewFinish on Bebop. Still the best on cars in my view, but dont hold a shine long on fiberglass. What do you all recommend for TD’s? Whats the best gel-coat or boat wax you used?
Thanks a bunch. If you can’t reply here try JeepBebop@aol.comGood Bebopin’ weather here in Phoenix for the next few months. Thanks!Randy in Chandler Arizona, great B-bopp'in teritory. I must have the only one in the country made by Rich Industries in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on a 1986 Ford Cortina (english ford escort) It's a 1600cc straight four cylinder front engne, 4 speed, changed from right side driver to left side with several shafts and u-joints. BEBOP because I once had an MGB with license plate MG-BEPOP in Virginia.
October 25, 2013 at 4:36 pm #258608Try Meguiars Polymer sealent, thats all I use,Used to be one called liqued Glass, but its not made anymore.
October 25, 2013 at 5:36 pm #258609I wish some one would try a product called SHINE ON. If you search shine on there is a video about it. The video looks real good . I called them and they insist it will work . Some day I will take the plunge and buy it, then we will all be driving beautifully finished cars.
October 25, 2013 at 6:29 pm #258610I use Meguiar’s Ultimate Quik Detailer??? after waxing or using Meguiars Polymer sealent and I am happy with it.I haven’t waxed my car since last August 2012. The caveat with stuff like Shine On is that it may leave a hard film which in time can flake off and looks like an old spotchy( is that a word?) clear coat and is a bear to get off ..if you can get it off.
I wipe down my car once a month rather than wash it. The Meguiar’s Ultimate Quik Detailer keeps her shiny clean.jebarry2013-10-25 18:33:12
October 26, 2013 at 12:07 pm #258611OK, thanks for the info. I could not find Shine On. I’ll try the Ultimate Quik Detailer after the Polymer sealant. I guess i’ll wipe it off with alcohol and a little rubbing compound first and hope for the best. It’s a dust bowl down here in summer in recent years.
P.S. I heard a metallic doinging niose in the driver side front end. It was only the shock upper dust cover that had come loose. It has no effect on the function of the shock absorber. I fixed it by cutting and stuffing a piece of foam rubber up in there. How about That?

October 27, 2013 at 12:50 pm #258612And I keep her undercover always when not enjoying her here on Oak Island area
October 27, 2013 at 9:40 pm #258613Several years ago I had a hot looking boat. Every time I used it I gave it a quick wipe down with Lemon Pledge. It went on quick, wiped down quick and looked fantastic for that day’s outing. Does not last, but a really good look with minimum arm work.
But for a good long lasting wax, make sure it’s carnauba based, like Meguire’s for example.October 27, 2013 at 11:34 pm #258614John, you might want to reconsider long term storage outdoors with a cover on. Esp in sandy areas! I once ruined a nice and rather expensive paint job on a TR6, as the sand slowly turned the inside of the cover into sandpaper and the wind worked it over all the parts it rested upon. Paul had a similar experience where it dulled and took off chrome on his radiator and headlight buckets.
October 28, 2013 at 10:34 am #258615Roy,
You could be on to something ..
Luckily I live on the back side of the island where its not too windy and no sand to speak of ..just live oak trees for shade and oak leaves continually falling uggghhh.
I couldn’t think of having my beloved outa my sight locked away in some strange storage shed miles and miles away ..As I think of it ..as much as I detail Olive with Mequiars Quick Detailer, actually weekly I do believe with the gentle breeze here and the soft car cover actually works in concert with the Mequiars Detailer to polish the gelcoat and chrome..maybe that’s why she always looks so shiny and new..
hmmm maybe I could market this!! thanks for the idea..
btw She has been under a car cover for 19 years with the previous owner and I …hope she makes it another 20 years
ThanksOctober 28, 2013 at 10:55 am #258616I was a Meguiar’s Quick Detailer user for years.
Then a friend from the Speedster Owners Group turned me on to this stuff:I never looked back. The product is TERRIFIC!Paul Mossberg

November 11, 2013 at 6:33 pm #258621Whew!
Among car guys, talking polishes and waxes is potentially filled with more land mines than politics or religion!
But I love the SurfCity stuff. As did the Speedster guy who recommended it to me!
Glad you like it John!

November 11, 2013 at 6:47 pm #258622Paul, I though your car looked terrific at the Air & Auto show. If you credit this stuff, I’m gonna go a get me some tomorrow. Their web site says that NAPA stores carry it.
November 11, 2013 at 8:56 pm #258623Walmart carries it in our area.
November 11, 2013 at 10:24 pm #258624Yeah, I got it at Walmart too.

November 19, 2013 at 8:58 pm #258625I want to chime in again . For Christmas i’m getting a electric buffer 7,000 rpm .If I do buff out my car and use a boat polish on it to improve the looks should use a wax remover first . Currently using a car wax for my everyday cars. If I remove wax ,clean jellcoat , put on a jellcoat polish what products are recommended for wax removing and cleaning jellcoat
November 19, 2013 at 9:12 pm #258626Greg, I really have to say that if you are talking about a 7000 rpm circular buffer, I would not recommend it unless you have a lot of experience using one. It is very easy to take a giant step backwards with one and “burn” the finish. If however, you are talking about a random orbit buffer with a motor that turns 7000 rpm you will be ok. The professionals use circular buffers and most of us are best off leaving them to the pros. (this is based upon my experience – I have one that I haven’t used for 35 years)

November 19, 2013 at 9:37 pm #258627Bought a bottle of the speed demon wax detailer and really like the stuff. Used it on my truck and the wife’s Tahoe and it works great with little effort. I think I’ll get a bottle of the barrier wax as well. Got it a WalMart as well.

November 20, 2013 at 8:07 am #258628x2 on the buffer speed. You want a slow wheel at least, and a random orbital wheel at best. Remember to mask any ridges and go back later and do them by hand.
Buffing will make you a karate master.November 20, 2013 at 9:50 am #258629I’ve still got about a half can of Simonize paste wax that I used on the Ghia. Might try that on the TD. Used to use it back in the day until they came out with Blue Coral. After that it’s been Meguiars paste wax on my truck and wife’s car. I’ll have to give this boat wax a look see.

"If one thing matters, everything matters" - from the book The ShackNovember 20, 2013 at 10:11 am #258630Just remember Allen, polish first. Then wax. Wax protects, it does not remove oxidation or hazing. It’s the polishing compound that does the dirty work.
And if you are trying to bring a dull finish back to life, using a one step polish/wax combination will waste a lot of your time.x3 on the buffer, slow speeds, random orbital!Paul Mossberg

November 20, 2013 at 10:28 am #258631I’ve used the Meguir’s Ultimate Polishing Compound on my heavily-oxidized TDr, and am very pleased with the results. It takes multiple applications, but they’re easy on and easy off…
It’s much, much better at bringing back the color than the Turtle Wax or 3M brands, either rubbing or polishing… and it is not very abrasive to worry about scratching.Doing it all by hand, rather than risk an orbital…Early FF TDr on 69 VW pan
