Getting ready to tow home from Carlisle. I have never had a working steering lock. Til now. It seems that it has decided to work. Kinda. It catches even with the key on. Since I am flat towing, I want it totally out of the circuit.
I am not familiar with the inner workings and am not at home and am working with a limited toolbox.
Any quick easy fixes suggested?

Are you able to disconnect the steering column from the steering box? That’s just a couple bolts.Or maybe loosen or disconnect the extension rod from the VW steering column?PMOSSBERG2014-05-19 11:40:26

Good thoughts Paul. The extension is under my full gas tank. But the box, – maybe. Off to check it out.
thanks again, Paul. “Talking” to you here allowed my time to get over being po’d and back into the think mode. My prob, as it turns out, was home-made. By Roy. One of the screws that I used to put the home-made steering wheel adapter for my fancy new wheel had backed out enough to contact some of the turn signal stuff. …could have been disasterous. I got “lucky” to find it. All’s well. Gonna hit the road.
