Hi,, Before I put in new clutch cable, how is shortening device installed?  I had looped cable trough hole  six inches and then attatched cable clamps, forming a loop.  Then I tightened large nut  over cable, but not all the way.  Am I supposed to tighten bolt all the way over cable, in effect making a crush fit?  Thanks for all help on previous post.  Dennis P

I would NOT trust the jamb nut alone. Mine pulled out. I suggest adding a cable clamp to make sure the loop stays closed.

don’t use it. Just use the original end and clamp it with two or three cable clamps. You said yourself that jamb nut was fraying/breaking the cable.

If your clutch cable pulled out of the shortening kit, you didn’t tighten it down enough.

It’s a crush fit. You want to tighten the bolt down over the cable, not just up to the cable.

Ed’s clamping approach works too. But I disagree that the cable shortening kits are to be avoided.

I agree but it’s tough to get two hambone hands and two wrenches to work in there. 😕
