Looks like MG used to come to you when you needed service, probably to exoricse the evil spirits of “Lucas The Price of Darkness,”  I had so many English cars in my lifetime, and most of the problems were electrical.  Nothing like your electrical going out at midnight on the Santa Ana Freeway at 100 MPH.

    Cool truck.
No, this isn’t a “my dog’s faster than your dog brag”, but what English cars have you had?
    I have had (English only)
    Bugeye Sprite
    3 Sunbeam Alpines
    MGTF-1500
    TR-6
    Jensen Healey
MGTDr (I guess you’d call it English)

Others include: 911S, Lancia Zagato, Mercedes SLK230, Maserati, plus a couple of other not too exciting others incl Crosley, VWs, Simca.

My question would have to be . Did such a truck really exist or did someone just paint it that way . Did they really only service MG’s that would be hard to believe since MG.s never break down .

    Hey Roy,

Where do I begin, in my younger days I was a masochist many times over.  I had a Sunbeam Alpine, a Sunbeam Tiger, Hillman Husky,  Bug-eyed Sprite, Austin-Healy 3000, Truimph TR-3, Jaguar XKE  (THE SEXIEST LOOKING CAR EVER MADE!).

I never had an MG, my FiberFab Replica is as close as I ever came to an MG, but I’m sure much mopre dependable.  It’s in the shop now, repainting, upholstery, sun visors, center console,  chrome grill, carpeting, dash, wiring, guages, chrome, brakes, hydraulic clutch and brake pedals, radio, clock, steering wheel, emblems etc.  It is fast becoming a money pit.  I’ll probably ask to be buried in it, at 74, it will probably be my last fling at a youth well spent.

Geez! Bill and Roy I’m surprised that neither had the ultimate in British luxury vehicle like mine…the Austin Mini. Mine was a woodie at that and had a sunroof. And the famed Lucas “worked at times” wiring for the lights.

    Al,

Never had a Mini, but they sure seem nice now that BMW is making them.

No injuries. I rear-ended a lady in a Honda who stopped at a green light. She wanted to let some cops turn left in front of her and they got into one of those “you go, no you go ahead” things while I was barreling down on them at 45 mph overjoyed that I was gonna get the green light there for once. By the time I noticed she was NOT MOVING it was too late. Wet, icy morning and the truck’s ABS wasn’t anti-locking so I skidded about 120 feet into her, still doing maybe 15 mph on impact.

The lady ended up driving off. She’ll need a rear valance/bumper skin and Geico should cover that. I was very happy I did not harm her person and very sad that I had harmed her car. She was trying to do the right thing.
The cop didn’t give me a ticket, which he could have.
The truck leaked anti-freeze all over so I was toast. Towed to the dealer. Frame stubs bent. Needs the bumper skin, the hood, at least one headlight assembly, maybe the driver fender, plus either the rad or the A/C condenser. Or both.
Damn shame. I really wanted to keep that truck for another year to finish the 3rd tier of the garden. Ran fine with about 165k on it.
    But worth maybe $2,000.
Dealer called Thursday and said the repair estimate was north of $6500 and climbing.
I may yet make a stab at fixing her. So I’ll to pay the $100 or $150 to tow her home and figure it out.
If I can get the parts out of a bone yard for under $1,000, well…I got a sledge hammer for the frame stubs and a rubber mallet for the body metal. She might be made straight enough to drive another year and sell for more than the $500 Crazy Ray’s junkyard would give me.
Meanwhile, we had just that Sunday made a deal to buy my wife a 2010 Corolla with 65k miles from a guy round the beltway. His relative had been at the Thai consulate and the car had been registered with diplomatic plates.
Private party sale so a good $1500 less than a dealer would charge but the hassle is always part of it. Had a couple chips in the windshield he said he’d have Safelight do under warranty. He drove the car to my house Wednesday but the glass wasn’t done and he wouldn’t sign a bill-of-sale promising to repair the glass if it didn’t pass the state inspection. Would budge on price either. SO he drove it home and ended up getting the glass replaced. But then he wouldn’t drive it back. So I ended up driving all the way to his place Friday AM with a giant wad of banded cash, which I traded for a title and two keys. Then to the paper chase of getting a temp tag/registration on a Friday afternoon, knowing that Saturday is a no-go at MVA and Monday is a holiday.
We got it done and K and I picked up her new car this a.m. and gave Enterprise back their car right after that. So we’re back to having two serviceable winter vehicles. I’ll get my stuff squared away then we’ll sell her 2005 Corolla with its 170,000 miles. Good car it is, but rusting now and has a leak somewhere around the windshield which drips on the passenger. during moderate rain.
Being cheap is not easy, I tell ya.
