Well, after years of modifications and finally having a seat that was comfortable for me (6’2″, 235#) the folks at SCCA have decided that all Hillclimb cars have a one piece seat. No hinged back seats allowed. I protested as the seat in the TDr is a fixed 2piece unit. Nope. No good. I have to install a one piece unit. I don’t know if you ever shopped for seats, but there is not a huge selection when the space between the tunnel and outer panel is only 16″. Today I cut the fiberglass behind the seat cushion to see what I have to move. You guessed it. The crossmember is right there. I’ll have to add a section behind the original then cut that original one out. I’ll need that for the seat layback.

Your photos are a big help to me. I can see what to do now with my back seat rest. Way too fat and fluffy I plan to take some stuffing out of it and let rest higher and further to the back cargo area like yours here. I thought the one bottom seat might be ok after de-stuffing it as well but I don’t know about that. Sitting on a plywood bottom can’t be very comfortible as others have told. What did you do for seat bottoms? Thanks,https://photos.app.goo.gl/aPABA4j3zqANaRTEA

I removed the Fiberglass boxes that served as the seat base and simply replaced them with a pair of angle iron. One piece on the plywood seat bottom and one placed on the floor. This dropped the height by several inches and eliminated the “Dino Flintstone” problem.

Man I wish I could see how you did that. I get the angle iron idea. Simple, Clean, works. Maybe i could use aluminum angle iron to ease drilling and install. Hmm??

Please continue and let me know more. This is the perfect time for your advice and help for me.

I have a post with pictures that Paul helped me post years ago that had a ” how to fix ” a seat and make it comfortable. I can ride for hours now. I’m not real good finding stuff on this site but maybe you can locate. Frozen or Dead butt syndrome or something like that. It really worked for me. It should be under my postings or Paul my have posted for me.

Yes, Hi, I saw that. he cut out a toilet seat shape in plywood basically the wove 2″ straps across which you can figure out.

I am not doing that. I am using the original fibergas bench seat with high density foam.

I’ll show you. But if it does not turn out I am going with new bucket seats. Simple and look great.

    Let’s see what happens.
