The adapter will get the wheel mounted.The turn signal cancellation mechanism should be stock VW stuff. You’ll just reuse what you already have. And of that doesn’t work, I did say “should.” 😉

I’m going to a car show tomorrow also on lake erie, Evengola state park. Park has a beach, its a very popular place for beach babes .Not much car watching here.

Good idea!.You have amazing low milage on your LR I try to get out everyday in my LR that is possible with around the island errands. I usually put about 20 miles each time . I have often wonderd how often the other memebers drive the replicas. -

I finally got the trailing arms completely cleaned and painted. Tomorrow I’ll install the ball joints and then clean and paint the front beam and move on to the brake drums and brakes. Photos can be found here:

Hey john barry, that would be an interesting thread. A chart that you go to once a month to fill in number miles we drive at the end of the year we woud know total miles our replicas drove and what the cost of gasoline to drive them was.Since i,m bacially cumputer dumb.I would be a poor person to do this.Maybe our leader would know how to do th…[Read more]

Bill, Exactly correct! The axle spindle is hollow and the speedo cable runs through it and through a 3/16 square hole in the end of the grease/dust cap. I think that this was standard on VW’s for many many years. A bit non-conventional if not odd. Sorry, but not having a VW based machine, I’ve been confused over the last bit here
with the bearing dust cap. From what I gather, your speedometer cable goes through your drumbrakes from the backing plate and is secured to the dust cap which in turn, turns the speedo cable? Seems a bit bizarre, but after working on my wife’s and son’s past VW’s… -

one nut each side top under wheel well very loose pulled up on fender tightened. Something that was a little strange driverside bolt went from front to back .Drivers side back to front . Someone must had a problem before

You’re talking the front fenders correct? How many of the bolts were loose?

Seriously Ed, It grew in diameter when I did it. The exact opposite from what I wanted. I wish I had saved the cap that I “whacked the crap out of”.
