I would like to know from Allen the source of the Union Jack Doo Rag & from Paul the source of his miraculous wind-proof driving cap.I have worn flat caps since the 1980s (long before I acquired the appropriate car in which to wear them) and regularly have had them blown off my head whilst walking during brisk Autumn days. A cap that would stay…[Read more]

Hi B,I have a BCW/ Chevette and I love it. The foot pedals are close but the real TD I owned had the same problem; no foot room. The tourque range of the Chevette is very good and fun to drive. I can drive all day in 4th at 50 with no problem. I had a fiberfab/VW and it is a good kit. You can still get body parts in Canada. VW parts are always…[Read more]

  • FLA should be some good hunting grounds. Check Craigslist often. That’s where I got mine here in MD, about 10 miles from my house. Good luck!

I’ve found an embroidery gal on eBay that does an MG TD car image on polo shirts (pocket or no pocket), denim shirts, duffel bags, and more.  She includes one line of lettering and I had her do “London Roadster” under the embroidered car image for a denim shirt.  She’s also done shirts for me with a Honda S2000.  I’m not quite up to ordering on…[Read more]

I haven’t tried driving with the driving cap above 50 miles per hour.  As soon as I get up to speed on the freeway, I chicken out and toss the cap on the floor.  I would hate to lose the cap that way. I lost one cap that flew out the back of my London Roadster, and I can’t find an equal replacement.

Ah that’s only because your driving cap has a chin strap!

I wear a driving cap. It stays put at 6o mph with high winds.

Ed nailed it Allen! I’d be toast if I didn’t keep the head covered. And onyl a doo-rag will do!

    Thread drift…but I’m blaming Allen!
    Allen…my old stomping grounds!
As a kid (early to mid-1960’s) I spent my summers in a tiny house on North Road in Peru. No running water, but we had a two-seater out-house, which I thought was hysterical because NO ONE ever used it two at a time! My great-grandfather built the house in 1909, his daughter, my…[Read more]

All TD kits are not built to the same dimensions. If your kit is Fiberfab or CMC you are in luck. MGMagic stocks parts for them.

If I had my TD built I’d do it. Chatannooga, TN to Bennington, VT. bet it runs through Pittsfield, Mass. (my hometown) too dag nab it. Next year. And Carlisle too!

Ed…I resemble the some hair remark! Actually……….I HAVE a Union Jack and American Flag doo rag I wear when I worked on my Ghia. And will use them again when working on the TD. The heat and humidity here in the middle of Georgia is wicked and the doo rag keeps the sweat out of my eyes and the gnats away from my ears.

  • edward ericson replied to the topic TF Air Deflector in the forum My Project 14 years ago

The guy who sold his TF (’54 TF; real TF) deflector swore it worked awesome. He’d sold the car and the new buyer didn’t want it. Seems to me it would work pretty well. The buffeting comes from the vacuum created in the space behind our big, flat windscreens. I find that it’s reduced some when I run Bridget with the small Brooklands screens up and…[Read more]

  • “Show bar” roll bars can fit under the canvas, but will do you little good, and maybe even some harm, if you ever do flip it. A real bar will be too high for the roof. I had a thought of making a bayonet mount for a roll bar, but I doubt that would really work without a lot more engineering than I’m capable of. Probably would not pass SVRA…[Read more]

I am all-in on the doo-rag. In fact, I just requested from my wife a Union Jack-patterned doo-rag for my birthday. Those who have met me know I am quite balding. So why? To NewKitman’s question, then:Sunburn. No hair means the sun beats down on my head directly, but a clean shave up there would allow for neat application of sun screen. It’s an…[Read more]

Paul…now there’s an idea. But what do we balding guys need with a doo rag?

  • Uh yeah, pretty much! And as a practical matter, you will not get a roof over a roll bar, at least not a roof that follows the normal TD roof line.

  • MGLondonRoadste replied to the topic valves adjusted in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago

To comment on the motor oil issue, I just read the article on Classic Oils’ site and was convinced to buy some for my old Type 1 engine.  Great advice on adjusting the valves.  Make sure you put it in a position to be worked on the night before you do the adjustment. – From the John Muir book.

  • Peter C. King replied to the topic valves adjusted in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years ago

Keep something in mind about VW valves. They are actuated by solid lifters; steel shafts that are pushed up directly by the cam. Valve seats erode slowly, particularly exhaust valve seats. Over time, VW valves tighten up.
Then there are the heads. Aluminum. Head bolts are steel. Over time the heads squash. You have to check the torque on the h…[Read more]
