Thank you for the help. I’m going to call Dick’s maybe tomorrow and possibly get some kind of quote. If I like it, the next thing will be getting it out of the dash. It is buried behind wires.

My London Roadster took Best in Class for custom cars at the Melrose 7th Ave Street Fair and Classic Car Show in March this year in Phoenix, Arizona. I do not know how to load photos on here.

The speedometer should be repairable. There are two dhops that I know of that dtill repair old speedos.
One is in Tempe, Arizona (next door to Phoenix) called Dick’s Speed O Tach. The other is North Hollywood Speedometer in North Hollywood, California. (Near Los
Angeles)I do not have their phone or address numbers handy, yet I have used b…[Read more]

<p style=”padding-left: 40px; text-align: left;”>My VDO speedometer is acting up. The MPH needle works fine. The odometer and the Trip meter are the one’s acting up. Sometimes they work and other times they don’t accumulate any miles. I’ve been getting them to work sometimes my playing around with the zero knob.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I plan on using jack stands. In fact the rear right now is on ramps and the front is on jackstands. Thank Paul

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I did see that tires with wide whites walls are almost twice the cost of black walls. I guess there isn’t a big demand. So I think I’ll stick with black walls. Thanks guys.

Blackwalls were more common and were OEM for TDs. I think wide whitewalls can look stunning on them as well. Ultimately it’s gilding the lily though: these cars have so many neat details and features that whitewalls can get lost in the mix.

Should be ok. I lifted my TDr, with the floor rack under that junction point, without the four-by-four. But please, don’t do any work on the car that way! Jack stands under the rear torsion tubes please. 🙂

Jeff,
I’m trying to help a person in Lancaster sell an almost completed VW based TD. She is asking $4,000. But I believe will take resonable offers. The car is in Lancaster Pennsylvania.
Send me your email and I will send pics.
I was about tp post it in the classifieds. But figure I’d give you a first shot.

Gangster whites are a personal choice. I’ve seen cars where they look pretty good and others where they are hideous. Owners choice as to what look they want. Scroll through the gallery and check out various photos. Good Luck.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Ed, do you use the full synthetic 75/90 gear oil or just the regular high performance oil?

-
edward ericson replied to the topic Reverse light switch in the forum General Discussion 8 months, 2 weeks ago
That’s why it’s coming out. I mean put taller ramps under the front—even the same height ones will work. With the car level it won’t leak oil from the reverse light port. That said, best to just go ahead and change it though, as mostly no one ever does it, and it should be done at least once per generation.
